Jose spent part of the past week in Toronto where he at- tended the Good Roads Convention. Mr. und (Mrs. Lornq McNaughton and family have moved to our vil­ lage. Lome is assisting his brother, Roy, at the mill. Mr. and Mrs. John Sawyer' are holidaying with their son! Dr, Glen Sawyer, at St. Thomas.Mr, and Mrs, i. N. Marshall en­ tertained a nnmher of their friends. Thursday evening with 4 tables pf euchre. The hostess served refresh­ ments assisted by Mrs. Lome Mar­ shall. The meet­ ing opened with the Institute Ode and Lord's (Prayer in unison, Mrs. Russell Morrison read the scripture lesson,, (During the business period, arrangements were completed for a euchre party in March. Rolf call was answered with quilt blocks; 12 members and three visitors were present. A presentation of a lovely locket to Mrs. Edith IFoiiey in mem­ ory of her son, Sydney King, who lost his life in Italy followed, Mrs, F.'Roger read the address and the Dresentation was made by Mrs, W. Batten. Mrs. M. Gallop convenor of historical research, gave an inter­ esting and instructive paper on the history of coffee. The Maple Leaf was sung. The meeting was closed by the hymn “O For a Clos­ er Walk With God” and the bene­ diction by Canon James. A contest was ^conducted by Mrs. James. The winners were Gerald Paul and Mrs Harold Davis. Refreshments were then served by the host and host­ ess assisted by Mrs. Cecil Dobson and Mrs. Copeland. During the luncheon a reading was given Leona Dobson. Chutoh gave a very in­ spiring address. Rev. A. g. True­ blood rendered a solo entitled "The Trygting Place of Prayer.” Mrs. Wesley Dixon and Mrs. Irene White are visiting friends in Barnin, Mrs, Cecil ,ERwood spent a few days with friends in London. Mrs, Hodgins, of Greenway, is spending some time with her daughter( Mrs, Aaron Scott. Miss Laurane Dixon, daughter pf Mr. and Mrs, Geo, Dixon is confined to St. Joseph/s Hospital, London, having her tonsils removed. Mr. Wm, Darling had the mis­ fortune to fall from the barn floor to the basement below and is con­ fined to his bed and is under the Doctorjs care, Mr. Fred Fenton had an X-Ray in London on Monday last. The Ladies' Guild, of St. Maiys Anglican c-hurch held a very suc­ cessful pan cake supper on Tues­ day evening last- Mr, Alex Hod­ gins being the lucky winner of the quilt. Last Wednesday night the Junior iboys took a 41-8 trimming from Clinton in that town. Chuck Hanley was .the outstanding man on • the flooi' sinking the ball for 24 points. Easton scored six points to lead the Exeter squad. The Senior boys won an exhibi­ tion tilt, Friday night, from a town team by the score of 40-i22. The town team held the High School eagers to 18-15 iri the first ‘half but tired .badly in the last half and the winners piled up 22 points. Bruce Glenn led his team netting 14 points. Stan Greene was high scorer on the town squad with eight points. Dn Monday night the 'Seniors went to London and hdld the Wells Academy team to a 19-19 tie. Ivdn- cic was easily the best man for Lon­ don scoring 14 of the 19 points. For 'Exeter Glenn arid Hennessey were the best. Glenn got three baskets and a foul shot foi* seven points and I-lennessdy hooped a couple baskets for four. Ward of the |Lpn- don team fractured his ankle during the first quarter. In the other half of the twin bill Monday night, the Seniorx Girls edged Wells Academy 21-20. Dun­ can was top scorer with ten points for (London while Lillian Hunter- Duvar and Janet Nestle paced the winners with six points each. Mrs. Mc­ Intosh, formerly Janet Malcolm, was in her 76th year, She was the elder daughter of* Margaret Fraser Malcolm and Alex Malcolm, She was a member of St. Andrews JPres- bvterian Church. Nairn. HIBBERT COUNCIL A regular monthly 'Hibbert Town­ ship Council meeting was held in the Staffa Township Hall on Mon­ day, March 4 th. The Clerk was instructed to advertise for tenders on what is known as the Walker Branch Drain. Tenders to include the tile and all the labor connected with the drain. The Council -re­ ceived fiVe tenders for crushing and trucking the gravel on the Town­ ship roads and after carefully con­ sidering same Mr. Sim Ireland, of London, was awarded the contract. Reeve Joseph Atkinson was ap­ pointed as a representative to at­ tend on the Board . of the Scott Memorial Hospital, Seaforth. The Imperial Oil Co., was instructed to install an oil pump to service the Township Power grader, and snow plow. Mr. Ernest Allen, assumed his duties as Road Superintendent for the Municipality.
