Miss Donna Cornish, of the staff of Charles Chapman and Company, London, visited over the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Cornish, of Exeter. Members of the James <St. Y.P.U. presented their play “Busy as a Beaver” for the second time in the church basement Tuesday evening. There was a fair attendance. Rev. E. Grigg left Wednesday for Detroit to attend a -Youth Rally Movement in Lincoln Park. He will visit for a few days in Harrow and expects to be away for about ten days. Miss Eva Fullerton, daughter of Group Captain and Mrs. E. G. Ful­ lerton, of Exeter, will be among the students to enter Victoria Hospital, in training for a nurse on January 26th. Miss Fullerton recently re­ ceived her discharge from the R.C.A.F. Mr. Warren May, who recently received his discharge from the R.C.A.F., has resumed his (position with the Canadian Bank of Com­ merce and is now engaged with the branch at Seaforth. Mrs. May will reside in Exeter until living quarters are available at .Seaforth. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Hendry spent the week-end in Toronto. While in the city, Mr. Hendry attended a conference of Ontario Managers and a dinner at the Royal York Hotel fbr the President, Mr. G. Spinney, the General Manager, Mr. B. C. Gardner, and the Assistant General Manager, Mr. S. C. Norsworthy, who is retiring after 40 years serv­ ice with the Bank of Montreal. Mitchell Basketbailers Win A boy’s and a girl’s basketball team from the Mitchell high school visited the Exeter arena Tuesday and played two games ' with the Exeter H.S. The Mitchell boy’s-team defeated the Exeter boys 18 to 12 and the Mitchell girls won from the Exeter girls 17 to 14. Mr. Gillies Was ’refere e for the boys and Miss Jordan for the girls. A representa­ tion from all the units is earnestly hoped for as important business will be discussed. The following articles were checked in last -Friday for shipment to headquarters. Knitted articles as follows: 8 infant booties, 7 infant bonnets, 10 infant sweaters 1 year, 14 girls’ sweaters (age 8), 29 'girls’ stockings (age 8), 1 ipair khaki knickers, 1 pair gloves A.F., 2 pair A’.F. socks. Will the units please complete all white yarn on hand, knitting infant bonnets and knee (not' short) booties for (February packing. Sewing as follows: 160 gauze diapers, 119 girls’ undervests, 80 girls’ rompers, 2 ’girls’ combinations, 2 girls’ bloomers. The sewing con­ venor -finds the following articles are still out: 13 rompers, 10 under­ Vests, 50 gauze diapers, and would ask the units to check up and have these all in in February. A large quantity of sewing was given out on Packing Bay consist­ ing of 75 flannelette vests, 25 eider­ down blankets, 150 flannelette diapers, 125 -gauze diapers and 28 girls’ coats (age 4). These articles are for use among the homeless of Europe and we appeal to you to make them and have them all In for the next shipment on February 8th. The committee expects to have the remainder of the quota on sew­ ing ready to give out in .February so work March. The treasurer then gave the annual report. Thel­ ma Russell had charge of the de­ votional period which opened with hymn 402. (Psalm 764 was repeated in unison. The gathering was then favored with a trio, Marion and Louise Woods and Mary McKnight, “An African .Lullaby,” A poem was then read by Arabelle Tuckey. The first chapter of the Study Book, “Angola Now,” was taken by Hazel Murray. Hymn 502 was sung and the meeting closed with the Mizpah Benediction. ILunch was served fby the group in charge. The next meet­ ing will be held at the home of Thelma Russell. James St. Afternoon Auxiliary The January meeting of the Afternoon W.M.S. met in the church parlor with the President, Mrs. M. Southcott in charge. “Standing at the portal of the opening year” was the opening hymn 'and a prayer by the president. The secretary, Mrs. Zurbrigg, gave the minutes of the December meeting, which were adopted. The' treasurer, Mrs. Stone, gave the financial report for 1945, showing that we had - contributed more than our allocation of $500, $514.76 having been sent to the Presjbyterial treasurer; $65.0 0 of this amount was contributed by the Associate Helpers. Gratifying' re­ ports fo’r the past year were given by the convenors and group leaders. Mrs. Irwin gave a short talk on temperance and Mrs. .Pybus read an interesting article on Christian Stewardship. The secretary then gave the report of the executive A Pleasant Evening On Tuesday evening of last week a very pleasant eyening was spent at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Cornish when they entertained a number of their friends and neigh­ bors.
