Fraser, of town, is in receipt of a letter from an old friend and a former resident of Exeter, Mrs. Alice Blake, of Guild­ ford, 'Surrey, Eng. Mrs. Fraser sent her a copy of the Times-Advocate a few weeks ago and Mrs. Blake stated that she had received it and read it from end to end and by the time she was through with it, did not know whether she was at home in Exeter or in -Guildford. She said that she was unable to get enough to eat as she could not live on I green stuff. They get a small piece of cheese, enough for one meal, and 3 ounces of bacon for a week. She hadn’t had an egg for a week and goes to a cafe for dinner three days a week. Allan Fraser had been to j see her when he was on two week’s { leave in the summer and she was pleased to see him. Meet at Arena The Y.P.U. of the James Street United Church tried out a new ex­ perience by holding their meeting at the Exeter Arena Tuesday eve­ ning, the first meeting went off well. About fifty young people were present. Mrs. Harvey Gillies led in a sing-song. Marguerite Pickard took charge of the meeting for the Christian Culture committee. Ivan Hunter-Duvar led in prayer and Douglas Stewart read the scripture. A topic on music appreciation was given by Miss Vera Decker. Follow­ ing the meeting the evening was spent in games conducted by Mr. and Mrs, R. C. Dinney, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Those time. Mr. and Mrs.’ Ernest Geffs, of New Toronto, have moved to Exeter into the residence of the late Mrs. Browiij Andrew (Street, Ernie was formerly maintenance manager fot MacAvally' Transport Co., of New Toronto, who have a fleet of 40 trucks. The days hate been bright and exceptionally mild and the farmers have been very busy in harvesting the root crops. Sugar beets are being ship­ ped out from the several stations along the line with a special train each day. Cabbages are being de­ hydrated at the lochl canning fac­ tory ahd red beets are being can­ ned, Carrots by the ton are being trucked to the Aylmer plant for canning, The turnip-waxing plant of Canadian - Cahners on James street has been goings night and day, Trucks and tractqr-drawn vehicles are doing a rushing busi­ ness to get as much done before breaks.
