Ker slake. Mr. William Simpson returned to Detroit after spending the^ past week here with Mrs. Simpson, Bob- hie and Billie at the home of Ms mother, Mrs. Lou Simpson. Miss Goldie Cross R.N. and Miss Irene Douglas, of London, attended the Forrest-McQueen wedding on Saturday. FO. Douglas Sangster, Hamilton, accompanied by FO. Robt. Long, of Windsor and FO. Jas. Wilson, of Toronto, are holidaying at the home of the former's mother, Mrs. Minnie Sangster. Miss Elva McQueen, a bride of this week, was presented with a handsome table at the home of Miss Mary Goodwin When fifteen girl friends were entertained. Mrs. A. , E. Munn read the address and Misses Margaret Glenn and Mary Goodwin made the presentation. Passmore’s Garage, Hensail, was threatened fey fire on Tuesday morning when it is believed sparks ignited from the air compressor in the pit. The fire brigade was sum­ moned immediately and the fire was under control without any ser­ ious damage being done. Fractured Leg Shirley Chapman, eldest daugh­ ter of Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Chap­ man, had the misfortune to frac­ ture her leg on Friday. She was at­ tended by Dr, D. G. Steer, who placed the fractured leg in a cast. Mt'S. Duncan Stewart Mrs. Duncan ’Stewart, a life-long resident of this district passed away at -her home north of the vil­ lage on Sunday in her 83rd year. She was born in Hay Township, her maiden name being Anna Bell, ■daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bell. She was a member of Carmel Presbyterian Church, Hen­ sail. Surviving are her husband; one son Murdoch Stewart in Bos­ ton; two brothers William and John Bell, of Hensall. Funeral service was held from the home on Tuesday at 2 p.m. Rev. R. H. Williams, of Seaforth, conducted the service. Burial in Hensall Un­ ion Cemetery. The bearers were Messrs. iSidney McArthur, Robt Mc­ Laren, Clarence Smiley, Ernest Chipchase, Andrew Bell and Robt. Thomson. KIPPEN The congregations of Kippen and Hillsgreen held joint services in St. Andrew’s United Chtti’cll here on Sunday last. Rev, P. W, Bever­ idge, of T’hessalon, Ont,, was the first of three ministers to preach for a call, There will be joint services, of Kippen and Hillsgreen next Sunday, J-uly 29th and on Friday evening, August 3rd. On Sunday at 11 a.m. the Rev. Ernest Hayes, of Welland Port, Ont., will preach and on Friday evening, August 3rd at 8.30 p.m. the Rev. Albert Jlinton, of Danville, Quebec, will preach. Following the service on Friday evening, August 3rd ■there will be a joint congregational meeting. Mrs.' H. Jones is visiting her sister and brother-in-law, Mr, and Mrs. Wm. Parsons, of Cromarty. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Parsons and' sons attended a family reunion at Ipperwash recently. The sympathy of. the community is extended to Mr. James' Jarrott and family in their bereavement. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Ferguson and family, of Chiselhurst, visited on Sunday with the former’s broth­ er-in-law and sister, M'r. and Mrs. W. Horney. Quite a number from here at­ tended the Cochrane picnic at Jewett’s Grove, Bayfield on Thurs­ day last. Mr. and Mrs, Norman Long vis­ ited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Herb Curran, of Dungannon, also at Port Albert.r Death of Mrs. Jarnos Jarrott A shadow of gloom was cast over this community when it was learn­ ed that Mary Jane Hudson, wife of James Jarrott had passed peace­ fully away at her home on the Town Line, Hay Township. She had been in failing health for some time but had only been confined to her bed for a week, The deeeased was born in Stanley Township and was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs,'Thomas Hudson and was in her 79 th year, Fifty-nine years ago she was united in marriage with James Jarrott. She has lived in this district all her life and was a member of Hillsgreen United Church. Besides her bereaved hus­ band she is survived by two daugh­ ters, Mrs. Hugh ‘LoVe (Annie), of Hensall, Mrs. Harry Norris (Lu- ella), of Kippen, and two sons, John, of Kippen and Eldon, of R.R. 2, Hensall, Two children prede­ ceased her some years Ago. Five sisters, Mrs. Agnes Consitt, of Sea­ forth, Mrs. William Douglas, Of Brucefield, Mrs. Martha Harvey, Mrs. Annie Logan and Mrs. Eva Carlisle, of Hensall; two brothers, Isaac Hudson,, of Seaforth, George Hudson, of Hensall, eight grand­ children. and slit great-grand child­ ren also survive. The funeral which was private was held from her late residence on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m, to .Bayfield Cemetery » CREDITON Mr. and Mrs, Lester Mclsaac and family, of Detroit, are visiting the former’s mother, Mrs. D. Miss Betty Lou Watson, of Kip­ pen, visited last week with Miss Betty Lou Swartz; Miss Anne Marie Rivers, -of Exeter, was a week-end guest with Miss Betty Lou Swartz. Mr. Lloyd Wein, of Windsor, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. G. Wein. Mrs. (Rev.) Reuber and daughter Anne are visiting friends in 'Chic­ ago. Mr. J. Mrs. Herb Fahrner visited in London a few days last week. Mrs. Freeman Morlock and Miss Pearl Gaiser spent a few days' last week visiting their sister Mrs. (Dr.) Triebner in Chesley. Misses Elaine and Norma Fahr- ner, Margaret and Ruth Ratz and Elsie Gaiser are holidaying at Grand Bend. Mrs. Emmery Fahrner is visiting relatives in Detroit, Church Meeting The July meeting of the Ladies’ Aid and W.M.S. of the Evangelical Church, was held at the home of Mrs. C. Hill with 30 members pres­ ent, Mrs. M. E. Reuber presided for the business and’ Mrs. A. Gaiser took charge of the program open­ ing With a patriotic poem and the Lord’s Prayer in Unison, Mrs. Gor­ don Ratz read the Scripture, Ro­ mans 12 and Mrs. Reuber Sang a solo, “The Prayer Perfect?’ Mrs. A. Geiser gave a short synopsis of two chapters of the Study Book and Mrs, Emmery Pahrner offered prayer for the Missionaries. Lunch was served and Mrs. Royal Gaiser •moved a vote of thanks to the hostess and the committees in charge. CENTRALIA Mrs. Robert Smith and Marlene year round, are visiting with Mrs. J. Falcon­ bridge in Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Harris West spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. John Talbot at Grand Valley. Miss Joanne Talbot, who has been holi­ daying here, returned home with them. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Sole and family were week-end guests with Mr. and Mrs. Cooper McCurdy. David Cole remained .for some holi­ days and Joanne and Carol Mc­ Curdy returned to Simcoe with Mr. 1 and Mrs. Cole. Mrs. E. Faulder, of Crediton, was a Sunday visitor with Mrs. Clara Abbott. Mrs. B. D. Cook and Miss Shirley Lightfoot spent a few days last week with the former’s daughter, Miss Margaret Cook at Grand Bend. Mrs. B. Hicks, Miss D. Hicks. Mrs. Clifford Hicks and young son spent last week at Grand Bend. Mrs. J. Essery, one of Centralia’s aged and highly esteemed residents, celebrated her birthday -on Monday of this week. We extend congratu­ lations and best wishes for many more happy birthdays. Miss Marjory Essery, of London, and Mr. C. Rowe, of Toronto, were week-end guests with the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Essery. Mr. and Mrs. W. Baker, of Gode­ rich, visited with relatives in the village on -Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Powe visit­ ed on Sunday with relatives at Mt. Brydges. Miss Helen Essery, of London, and Lt. N/S. Beatrice Essery, of Ottawa, visited with their parents over the week-end. 8^«Pound Pike Caught by G. Et. Hicks Fishing is 100% better this year at Burford ’Lake due to the higher water level, according to L. W. Clark, a property owner at this re­ sort. On Thursday G. E. Hicks caught an 8%-pound pike, the largest of this species to be taken so far this season. He was trolling at the time and used a red-eye Wabbler as a lure. “Pike fishing is better this year and bigger fish are being caught,” said Mr. Clark, “due entirely to the higher water level, The lake is up now where it belongs, and the fish, formerly trapped in Mud Lake at this time of the year, can now get out into Burford Lake?’ Mr. Clark advocates that a dam be built to hold back the water. Miss Elizabeth Staples spent last week holidaying with Miss Alice Passmore. Mrs. Chas. Johns spent a few days with Mrs. M. (Tillie) Hern in St. Marys last week. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kydd and Mr. Walter Rydall returned to Shallow Lake on Saturday after spending a week at the farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Kydd. Mr. and Mrs. E. McIntyre spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Thos, Ballantyne. Miss Aileen Ferguson and Miss Betty Lloyd, of Schomberg, are holidaying this week with Rev. and Mrs. W. Mair. Last Thursday evening about 30 friends and relatives gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kydd. 'Each took a .picnic lunch and all enjoyed a social time to­ gether. Mrs. Wm. Ferguson spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Ferguson, London Town­ ship, Mrs. Ferguson remained for this week, Mr. Bruce Mair, who is employ­ ed in London, was burned about the face, chest, shoulders and arm, when a metal plate which was in the process of melting exploded. He was admitted to Victoria Hos­ pital and is recovering nicely. DASHWOOD Mr, and Mrs. E. Sippel. of Lan­ sing, Mich,, visited with Mr. and Mrs, Clayton Pfile and John Kuntz Miss Graybiel, of Woodstock, is visiting with her aunt, Miss Bea- triee Graybiel, and Mr. and Mrs. Wes England, Mr. and Mrs, Leonard Birk and family called on friends here on Saturday, Mr. and Mrs, Melton Walper, of Ingersoll, and Mr. and Mrs. 0. Rou-tledge and family, of Ingersoll, were week-end visitors With. Mr. and Mrs. P, Fassold, Miss Onleda Restemeyer R.N., of London, is spending her vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Restemeyer. Mrs. Taylor, who has been in Toronto with her husband, who has been very ill, has1 returned home. We expect the Doctor soon.
