Exeter Masons at Blyth Lodge
The Blyth Standard in reporting
Past Masters Night at the Blyth
Masonic Lodge says in part: “W.
Bro. Charles Salter,* who is a mem
ber of Exeter lodge and who has
been enjoying holidays there, kind
ly transported a load of the Exeter
brethren to Blyth for the meeting.
Two of the Exeter brethren were
asked for a few words, one of them
being a former member of Blyth
lodge, V. Wor. Bro. W. W. Taman.
His remarks were greatly enjoyed,
as he recalled the fact that he be
came a -member of Blyth lodge in
IS 9 8-. He had never regretted
decision and addressed a few
marks to 'the newer members,
recalled the names of some of
members of those days
that 'he did not see one
present at the meeting.
Dignan, also of Exeter,

ENGAGED AS H.S. TEACHER
At a meeting of the Board of
Education Tuesday evening Mr.
Joseph B« Creech was engaged as
a. member of the high school stuff.
Mr. Creech before .his enlistment lit
the R.C.'A.F,, ’ was the principal of
the Exetei* public school. He is at
present an instructor at Aylmer
and will receive his discharge be-
for the opening of the fall term. He
and Mrs. Creech are at preseht on.
leave for a week.
Sgm, Chester 0, Cornish, who was
one of the first from Exeter to go
overseas with the Canadian forces,
arrived home Friday last, Chester
enlisted with the infantry and after
going overseas transferred to the
Signal Corps. He was three and a
half years in England before see
ing action and the time of waiting,
he says, was monotonous. He went
With the forces to Sicily and was
'through the Italian campaign be
fore returning to England to take
part in the invasion of France. He
served in France, Belgium, Holland
and Germany before returning
home. Chester says the Belgian
people were glad to welcome the
Canadians as liberators and used
them exceptionally well.
Another war veteran who return
ed home Friday last was Tpr. Lee
land dory who has been overseas i
since November, 1941, Leeland was |
a mechanic with a tank corps and
followed closely behind the tanks
in their maneouvres across France,
Belgium and Holland and into Ger
many. Leeland did not mention it
but we have heard from other
sources that the repair crews did
heroic work in keeping the tanks
on the move, making repairs when
they broke down or were put out of
commission. With the surrender of
Germany the work for the tanks
was completed. The trip home was
made in five days and 'the boys were
again glad to set foot on native
soil.

ing the room with soot, Margaret,
a nine-months, old baby, was sit
ting on its mother’s lap across the
room but directly in front of the

soot. Some of the bricks from the
chimney were blown to powder
while others were scattered twenty
feet on either side of the kitchen.
Fortunately the lightning did not
