Mrs. Harry Cole has returned to town from Halifax where she has been for some time while her hus­ band was stationed there. Mrs. Alex Lloyd has returned to her home in Toronto after vis­ iting for several days at the home of her father, Mr. L. Day. Cpl. M. Margison and Mrs. Mar- gison left Thursday evening for Plaster Rock, N.B., to visit with the former’s parents while on their leave. Mr. and Mrs. T. Mr. Harry Penhale leaves today1 (Wednesday) for Strathroy where he has accepted a position as Su­ perintendent' of the Canning Fac­ tory. Mrs. Penhale and family in­ tend moving to Strathroy as soon as they can locate" a house. Mr. H. E. Keddy, Mrs. Keddy ana Douglas, who spent the winter in Victoria, B.C., aftei1 having dis­ posed of their grocery business at Glencoe, arrived in Exeter Friday last and are visiting the former’s brother and sister, W. C. and Miss Nettie Keddy. Mr, and Mrs. Wm. Chambers mo­ tored to Torohto on Friday and on Saturday attended the wedding of Miss Jean Graydou to Mr. Kirby Bums, Streetsville. M*r, Burns overseas with the Canadian Fighters. Mrs, J. G. Cochrane had been Visiting in Toronto a week, returned home with them. A few friends paid a pleasant surprise visit Monday afternoon to the home of Mrs. John Moir, who is in her 88th year, and spent a pleasant afternoon and also provid­ ed a Very dainty supper, much to the ehjoyment of the aged lady. Mrs. Moir is in fair health being able to be up and around each day. Phone 16 I I Exeter Mission Societies Hold Banquet In James Street Church The June meeting of the James Street Evening Auxiliary was held, in the church parlors Monday eve­ ning when the members of the Auxiliary entertained the members of the afternoon auxiliary and the Mission Circle. Nearly one hundred ladies sat down to tables beautiful­ ly decorated with spring flowers i and well laden with good things to eat. The guests were received a.nd welcomed Iby the president, Miss Stella Southcott. During the sup­ per hour a sing-song was conduct­ ed by Miss Heldn Penhale and a piano selection by Miss Elizabeth Gladman was rendered. The pro- Sgram opened with the National Anthem followed by the Daily Prayer in unison. The 'minutes of the last meeting and roll call was read by Mrs. A. Hamilton. Mrs. W. Batten took charge of the scripture reading which was the 23 rd Psalm read in unison Miss May Jones led in prayer. A solo by Mrs. Les. ■Robertson- was enjoyed by all. Mrs. J. M. Southcott, of the afternoon auxiliary introduced the guest speaker, Miss Elizabeth McKenzie, of London, a missionary home on furlough from Africa. She told a very interesting story a'bout the African people and their education and religious life. She plans to go back to her mission field in the fall already having served twenty- five years there. Mrs. A. B. Irwin moved a vote of thanks to Miss McKenzie for .being at our meeting and leaving with us such a clear picture of her work over there. Mrs. Wm. Cook and Miss Ardys McFalls thanked, the Auxiliary for inviting ^them to the meeting and having the opportunity to hear Miss McKenzie.
