Exeter Boy Makes Good
Last week mention was
that Mr. Edgar 'Moir, of St.
arines. formerly of Exeter,
chosen an alderman of that

Exeter as a carpenter's helper and
after working in London a short
time, moved on to St. Catharines
where he got work with a leading
contractor. It wasn’t long before
he began contracting on his own
behalf and today is regarded as
one of the most reliable and most
successful contractors in the city.
He has been very prominent in the

on January 10th with the president

votional period was taken by Mrs.
Irwin. Business was discussed. The
:guest speaker for the meeting was
Mrs. Hunt, who gave a very inspir
ing message, which was appreciated
by all present. We were favored
with a solo by Mrs. L. Robertson.
The meeting closed by the singing
of a hymn. Afternoon tea was serv
ed by the group in charge. The

The Young People’s Union
James Street United Church was
held at the home of Miss Helen
Rowe on Monday evening, Jan. 15.
The president, Irene Sweet, opened
the meeting with Hymn 4 followed
by a reading and prayer. The roll
was called and the minutes of the
last meeting were read and adopt
ed. Miss Vera Decker gave a short
talk about her work at the File
Hills Indian School. There was a
short business session, then Helen
Westcott took charge of the devo
tional part of the meeting. A poem
was read by Geraldine Prout fol
lowed by Hymn 64. Doris Westcott
read the Scripture lesson and Helen
Buswell told a story about music.
Hymn 285 was then sung after
which Glen Fisher led in prayer.
Helen Rowe favored us with a vocal
solo. Hymn 95 was sung and the
meeting closed with the Mizpah
Benediction. A contest was much
enjoyed by everyone and a lovely
lunch was served at the close.

The Afternoon Auxiliary met on
Thursday, Jan. 11th. The meeting
opened with quiet music and a New
Year reading and prayer by the
president, followed by the Daily
Prayer by all. Mrs. Zurbrigg our
new secretary, read the minutes of
the last meeting and called the roil
to which thirty-two members re
sponded. The treasurer . then gave
a report for the years’ work which
was very cheering, showing

a poem. Mrs. BUswell then took up
the Study Book and with black
board and readings by Mrs. Pybus,
Mrs. Kyle, Mrs. Stone and Mrs.
Buswell gave a very interesting ac
count on “The Church in the Phil-
lipines”. The meeting closed with
Hymn 252 and the Benediction.
