The :guest speaker for the meeting was Mrs. Hunt, who gave a very inspir­ ing message, which was appreciated by all present. We were favored with a solo by Mrs. L. Robertson. The meeting closed by the singing of a hymn. Afternoon tea was serv­ ed by the group in charge. Clinton beat the locals 46-16 with Elliott the marksman scoring 18 points. Clinton’s shooting was very effective and although Exeter had many shots at the basket they couldn't seem to click. The Young People’s Union James Street United Church was held at the home of Miss Helen Rowe on Monday evening, Jan. 15. The president, Irene Sweet, opened the meeting with Hymn 4 followed by a reading and prayer. The roll was called and the minutes of the last meeting were read and adopt­ ed. Miss Vera Decker gave a short talk about her work at the File Hills Indian School. There was a short business session, then Helen Westcott took charge of the devo­ tional part of the meeting. A poem was read by Geraldine Prout fol­ lowed by Hymn 64. Doris Westcott read the Scripture lesson and Helen Buswell told a story about music. Hymn 285 was then sung after which Glen Fisher led in prayer. Helen Rowe favored us with a vocal solo. Hymn 95 was sung and the meeting closed with the Mizpah Benediction. A contest was much enjoyed by everyone and a lovely lunch was served at the close. The meeting opened with quiet music and a New Year reading and prayer by the president, followed by the Daily Prayer by all. Mrs. Zurbrigg our new secretary, read the minutes of the last meeting and called the roil to which thirty-two members re­ sponded. The treasurer . then gave a report for the years’ work which was very cheering, showing givings amounted to $542.39 after expenses were taken off, mount sent to Presbyterial Treas­ urer our sec. sent ing material. Other sec. gave factory reports on the years’ Friendship sec. made 156 calls dur­ ing the year. Collection was taken up. The rearrangement of names of groups were read. A report of the executive meeting held on Jan 3rd at the home of Mrs. M. Southcott, was given by the secretary. A com­ mittee comprised of Mrs. L. Taylor, Mrs. W. Gook and Mrs. M. South­ cott to consider a proposed rally of all women of a congregation. The theme of the rally is “Community tasks for United Church Women.” Representatives other churches arrange for the Feb. 16th are Mrs. Zurbrigg. Mrs. Buswell’s group then took charge. Mrs. "An­ derson took the cliaii’ and conduct­ ed the devotional exercises, opening with hymn 22 and prayer. Mrs. King then gave an instrumental en­ titled, “In the Sweet Bye and Bye” with variations. The subject for prayer was “The Kingdom of God in this Community” and prayers were given by Mrs. Beavers, Mrs. Irwin, Mrs. Cook, Mrs. Anderson. Hymn 380 and Mrs. Anderson read a poem. Mrs. BUswell then took up the Study Book and with black­ board and readings by Mrs. Pybus, Mrs. Kyle, Mrs. Stone and Mrs. Buswell gave a very interesting ac­ count on “The Church in the Phil- lipines”.
