Mr. W. R. Davidson, superintendent of the school, was chairman and opened the program wiHi a brief address. The opening chorus of “Welcome” by the school was followed by recitations of “Welcome” by Billie Fink, Norman Hyde, Jimmie Bayn­ ham, “ Bell, and “Away in a Manger,” by Beginners. Christmas Services The services in the Centralia church on Sunday last were carried out to the fullest extent of the Christmas spirit in sermon and song. The pastor, Rev. Merriam, took for his _ ' ’ _ “A Journey to Bethlehem,” the in _ choir sang three Christmas anthems and were very well rendered. At the evening service members of the W.M.S. and the congregation along with the choir rendered a beautiful Christmas pageant, “Worship Christ The Newborn King,” being taken in part from the Missionary Month­ ly and built up by Miss Eva Mer­ riam bringing in an excellent Christinas story, read by Rev. Mer­ riam, with the usual angels, shep­ herds, kings and the boy Kasmir. The W.M.S. members taking part were: leaders, Mrs. F. Bowden and Mrs. R. Smith, Mrs. (Rev.) Mer­ riam, Miss Flossie Davey, Miss Agnes Anderson, Mrs. C. Skinner; Angels: Mrs. H. West; Miss Audrey Powe, Mrs. Ree*. Hodgson, Mrs. F. Hicks, Miss Greta Webber, Miss Marjorie Isaac, Miss Dorothy Hicks; Shepherds: Jack Hepburn, Elmer Powe; Kings: Messrs. Roy Andrew, Otto Brown, Cecil Skinner; Kasmir, Rex Skinner, throughout the pag­ eant, the choir, under the leader­ ship of Mrs. Penwarden sang a number of Christmas carols and anthems which were fitting with the pageant assisted by the Junior Mission Band girls, Maxine God- bolt‘; Maty Margaret Essery, Maria Bowden, singing "Away iri a Manger"; also the Senior Mission Band girls, Arlene Skinner, Maxine Bowden, iLena Flitton, Evelyn Wright, singing from the back of the church with the Angels, The entire evening service was one that will remain in the memory of all who saw it for some time, the like of which was never presented in the church before and could stand repeating. Major Jose was born at Foxboro, in Belleville district, a son of tlie late Dr, and Mrs. Charles Jose. They moved to Kirkton when he was a child, and there his father established a veterinary practice. His primary education was received at Kirkton school, and he gradu­ ated from St. Marys high school, entering University of Western On­ tario. He received his arts degree from the university in 1922, and three years later graduated in medi­ cine, establishing a practice in St. Marys. # Two years before the war started! Major Jose joined the Perth Regi­ ment, then a militia regiment. He served as a medical officer of the unit when it went active, at what was then Moore Barracks in Strat­ ford. After going to Britain with the Berths, he was transferred to other duties. His wife, the former Miss Johnson, Kitchener, Marys with their Charles. One brother, Dr. H.
