L. G. Noakes, arrived in Hen­ sail on Monday, December 18, with her two small sons, Brian and Ray­ mond. Mrs. Noakes will make her home her© with her husband’s par­ ents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Noakes, for the winter, Class Meeting The Wqhelo Class met on Friday evening last and the program com­ menced by sjUgipg “Hark the Her­ ald Angels Sing” followed by the Lord’s P,rayer. The Scripture, John 1-1-14 was read by Miss Gladys Luker. The Devotional Reading, entitled "What Is Christmas?” was taken by Miss Erma Kipfer, It was decided that Miss Mary Goodwin act as treasurer for the. White Gift Sunday and look after the collec­ tions, the presentation to be made by a class member, Miss Gladys Lucker very ably took the topic, entitled “How Can The World Preserve Peace?” The meeting closed with singing “Silent Night” and the Mizpah Benediction, A social hour followed under the con- venership of Mrs, Hedden and Miss Erma Kipfer. Institute Hears Interesting Address Mrs, Russel Broderick was hos­ tess to the Hensall Women’s Insti­ tute on Wednesday evening assisted by Mrs. Thos. Sherritt, co-hostess, Miss Gladys Luker presided and the meeting opened by singing “The Ode” and “Hark The Herald Angels Sing” followed by the Lord’s Pray­ er in unison. The roll call was answered with Christmas gifts for the Sick Children's Hospital in London and were placed beneath a decorated tree, A special feature of the evening was vocal solos by Miss Marguerite Hoggarth, of Exe­ ter accompanied By Florence Welsh, on the piano, One number, entitled “White Christmas” being most appropriate. A display of “Easily Made Christmas Gifts” was given by Mrs. Roy MacLaren. Mrs. Albert Shirray led in a sing-song of Christ­ mas Carols depicting the birth of Christ, The guest speaker, Mrs. 'R. . Y. MacLaren gave, a very interest­ ing address on “Stepping Stones Throughout The Year” discussing the various holidays. Numerous matters of business were discussed. Inspection of the new laundry equipment which cost $3,500 was made and the committee express­ ed satisfaction, considering it a justifiable expenditure. School Concert The annual Christmas concert at S.S. No. 1, Tuckersmith, was held on Monday evening, December 18, and was a splendid success. Much credit is due to Mrs. Robert Simp­ son, teacher, for the splendid entertainment. Rev. R. A. Brook acted as chairman over the follow­ ing program. The first item being a brief address by the chairman followed by a chorus by the school, “Heigh ho for Christmas”, welcome recitation by Bernice Dilling, “The First Christmas” by Norma Greene, a chorus by the school “Away in a Manger”, drill “Christmas Star” by the girls, a chorus “There’s a Song in the Air” by the school, a recita­ tion by Kenneth- Parker, “The Artist” by Donald Greene,. “Sea- Saw”, a chorus by the school, rec- • Ration by Gerald Bell, a recitation by Betty Greene and Marion Pep­ per, “The Cow-boy” by Cecil Pep­ per and cast. “Signs of Christmas” by the juniors, recitation by Bobbie Bell, a solo “My Kitty” by Ken­ neth Parker, a piano selction by D. Mrs. Hill gave the treas­ urer’s report. The Glad Tidings subscriptions were renewed for the coming year. M’*g. Wm.
