Cpl, Harold Bonthron, of Barrie- field, has been in charge of his father’s business during the past week while Mr, and Mrs. J. W. Bonthron have been on vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Cowan, of Dungan­ non, have rented the upper part of Miss Emma Johnston's home and intend moving in by Sept. 1st. Mr. Cowan has been engaged as prin­ cipal of the Public School. A memorial service for the late Pte. Wm. Nicol, who was recently killed in action in France will be held in Carmel Presbyterian church in the near future when the pastor, Rev. J. E. Taylor, arrives home from vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Blowes, Claudette and Sandra moved to their new home in Exeter on Mon­ day which they recently purchased from Mrs. Charlotte Taylor, Carling St. Mr. Blowes has been principal of Hensall Public School _ for 16 years and has tendered his resig­ nation for a similar position at the Exeter Public Mrs. Frank Coleman has the upper part of her house and Mrs. Geo. Elliott and son Bil­ ly, of Bayfield. This community learned gret that the families of Flying Of­ ficers Harold Brown and Ken Lyon had received notice that their re­ spective sons have been listed as missing in action overseas. Harold is the only son of Mr, Henry Brown Crediton, and Ken whose parents, live at Thorndale was formerly em­ ployed at the Bank of Commerce here. It is our sincere hope that brighter news will soon be received. Mr, and Mrs. D. J, McKitterick^ of Tillbury have peen notified from the casualty office of tile R.C.A.F., that their son Fit. Lieut. D. H. Mc- Kitterick who was listed as missing in action in October 1943, is now for official purposes presumed ‘dead Mrs. McKitterick (nee Cora Lam­ port) was a former resident of Crediton and a daughter of the Mr. and Mrs. James Lamport. Evangelical Ladies’ Aid The August meeting of Ladies’ Aid and W.M.S, was at the home of Mrs. 'Clayton Sima. The roll was called when 21 mem­ bers and two visitors . responded. Mrs. Hugo Schenk took the chair for the Devotional Period. Mrs. M. Faist read the scripture and Mrs. W. Wein led in prayer. The chap­ ter of the Study Book was given by Mrs, H. Schenk. Mrs. Treman Morlock took the business part of the meeting. The Society was invited to attend the Summer Christmas Tree by the Mission Band on the evening of Sept. 1st, on the church lawn. The meeting was closed with song and prayer after which a dainty lunch was served. The Thames Road Mission Band met on the Manse lawn on Friday afternoon with an attendance of 35 in the form of a social afternoon. The meeting opened with the presi­ dent, Betty Allison presiding. Hymn, ®‘Jesus Loves Me” was sung follow­ ed with all repeating the Mission. Band purpose. Prayer by Mrs. Mair. The secretary’s report was then given and roll call taken. The treas­ urer’s report was given hy Floyd Stewart and collection taken. The meeting closed with “God Save the King” after which the remainder of the afternoon was spent in races and a treasure hunt, was served.
