Mrs. Ray Broderick spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Broderick in St, Catherines. Mr. Milton Ortwein, of London, spent the week-end with, his par­ ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Ortwein. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Gould return­ ed to Toronto on Sunday after a pleasant holiday with the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Walker. Miss Dorothy Brazier, nurse-in­ training at St. Joseph’s Hospital, London, visited recently with Dr. and Mrs. D. G, Steer and Patsy, Mrs. Bella Palmer, who has spent the past several weeks at the home of her son, Earl, in Toronto, returned to her home here this Week. Mr. John Passmore and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Passmore attended the Passmore-Shilton wedding in Sher­ burne United Church, Toronto, on Friday evening, Mrs. Fred Manns had the mis­ fortune to fall at her home on Sat­ urday and in so doing fractured her left arm. She was taken to Scott Memorial Hospital, Seaforth, where she was treated. Anniersary services will be held in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sunday, May 2 Sth. when Rev. Richard Stewart, of Knox Presby­ terian church, Goderich, will be the guest speaker. Special music by the choir. It will be of interest to many to know that Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Mac- Laren, of Goderich, former well- known residents of Hensail, will as­ sist at the evening service at the anniversary in Carmel Presbyterian Church oh Sunday, May 28th. Mt. and Mrs. Albert Passmore and little son of Delhi spent Sunday at the home of the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Passmore, and while here had their son, Kenneth Gerald, baptized by Rev. Robt. Pass- more, of Alberta, who with his bride is spending part, of their honeymoon with Rev. Passmore’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Passmore, Airs, Frahk Mousscriu Dies Suddenly A shadow of gloom was cast over this community on Sunday evening upon hearing of the sudden passing of a well-known and highly respect­ ed citizen in the person of Mrs. Frank Mousseau in her 14 th year. The deceased had been in her usual health and was preparing the eve­ ning meal when she dropped dead. She wag the former Margaret Brown, of Seaforth, and has resided in this district most of her life. Possessed of a kind disposition, Mrs. Mousseau proved to be a .good neighbor and friend and will be much missed in hei’ home by her bereaved husband, son and daughter, Margaret and Wilfred. Funeral service was held from St. Boniface Roman Catholic Church, Zurich, on Wednesday at 10 p.m. of which the deceased was a member. Interment in the Catholic Cemetery. W.M.S. Meet The May meeting of the W.M.S. of Carmel Presbyterian Church was held on Thursday at 3 p.m. in the school-room of the church with Mrs. Hannah Workman presiding. The meeting opened by singing ‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” follow­ ed by prayer by Mrs. Workman. The Scripture, Psalm 145, was read by Miss Minnie Reid. Mrs. J. Taylor gave an interesting item on “From Christians in China to Christians in Canada”, after which Mrs. Tay­ lor led in prayer. Mrs. Malcolm Dou- gall played a piano solo. .The topic on the “Bhil Mission” was taken by Mrs.’ Workman, and the meeting closed by singing “Tis the Blessed Hour of Prayer” and the Lord’s Prayer in unison. Arnold Circle The May .meeting of the Arnold Circle of Carmel Presbyterian Church was held at the home of Miss Jean McQueen on Tuesday eve­ ning, May 16, with Mrs. R. A. Orr presiding, The meeting opened with the call to worship and the singing of a hymn, after which Mrs. Orr led in prayer. Several passages of Scripture were read by Mrs. J. Far­ quhar and Mrs. Chas. Forrest leu in prayer. Hymn, “I Love Thy King­ dom Lord,” was sung and the roll call answered by the presentation of towels, followed by the business. The topic on “Broad Views of thu Christian Church,” was given by Miss Beryl Pfaff. The meeting closed by singing “Come, Let us Sing of a Wonderful Love,” and the Lord’s Prayer in unison. Mrs. Orr directed a quiz and refreshment were served by the hostess. Died in the West William Dayman, former well- known Hensail farmer, died in] Saskatchewan in his 82nd year, He] was born on the old homestead on the third concession of Tuckersmith, Where he farmed before moving to Saskatchewan, settling near White­ wood. I-Iis death was the result of a severe stroke. His widow is the for­ mer Elizabeth Greenwood* of Lum­ ley, ‘Ont. Four sons and three daugh­ ters also survive; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Ahn Holmes* Detroit; Mrs. Susie Straiit, Now York; three brothers, Thomas, Orlando, Fla«; Joseph, St, Catherines, and Robert, of Tttckersmith. Wrty-'two Doxes Packed For Overseas Local and rural citizens are to be commended for their hearty support given to the appeal for donations of money for boxes for the Hensall boys who are serving overseas. These boxes (42 in number) were packed by the Women’s Institute and the War Service Committee, and mem­ bers of the Girls’ Dance Club and friends on Thursday night, May 18. The fact that a great many folks throughout Hensall and district gladly gave tlieir sugar rations made possible the provision of delicious home-made candy consisting of chocolate and divinity fudge. The splendid work being accomplished by Mesdames Pfaff, Sherritt, Welsh, Beer, Paterson, Cawthorpe, Biowes and Hess, while other kind friends contributed butter, corn syrup, etc., and a lovely assortment of cookies. The ladies wish to thank Mrs. John C. Bell and Mrs. John McEwen for their donations of maple syrup. De­ licious cakes of maple sugar were produced for each box. this being the work of Mrs. (Dr.) Campbell and Mrs. Jas. Sangster. Mrs. John M. Glenn added a further contribu­ tion. In addition to the items al­ ready named each box contained soup, pork and beans, meat, choco­ late, shaving cream, razor blades, cigarettes, tobacco and papers, gum, cheese, sodas, oxo, face cloths, cough candy and canned goods. Previously mentioned was the check for $50. received from Miss Mary Goodwin, treasurer of the Girls’ Dance Club, their donation towards these boxes. All shipping charges were borne by the War Service Committee. There were 41 men’s boxes and one lady’s box (Cpl. Helen Bell). All the post­ al work in connection with these boxes such aS addressing, declara­ tion, etc., is most efficiently attend­ ed to by Mr. F. >G. Bonthron. local postmaster, and his assistant. Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Steeper, of Parkhill, visited wifhvMr, and Mrs. J. Pollard. Anniversary Services Very successful anniversary serv­ ices were held in the church on Sunday last. Large congregations were in attendance for both services. The church was attractively decor­ ated with blossoms, spring flowers and plants. Splendid music was pro­ vided by the choir at both services. In the morning they were assisted by a mixed quartette from St. Marys and in the evening by a men’s quar­ tette from Grand Bend with Mr. A. Wuerth supplying for One of the members. All numbers were beauti­ fully rendered and were greatly ap­ preciated by all. Mr. Alan Elston, violinist, rendered selections at both services. Rev. R. N. Stewart, of Tees­ water, a former pastor, was guest speaker at both services and many friends gathered to hear his mes­ sages and to renew acquaintances. Rev. R. J. Merriam took charge of the church services in Teeswater on Sunday. DASHWOOD Mr. Bam WitzeL of Toronto, spent the week-end with his mother, Mrs. Witzel, Miss Dorothy Wein, of Victoria Hospital, London, is spending her vacation with her parents, Mrs. Chas. Thiel and daughter, of Zurich, spent a few days with her parents, Mr, and Mrs. Jacob Fisher. * Mr, and Mrs. Louis Zeller, of Stratford, called on Mr. and Mrs. K- Nadiger on Saturday evening. Mr. Harry Rader, who lives on the town line, is very sick in hospit­ al in London, Officially Welcome Pastor and Wife at New Hamburg Following is an exact quotation of an article appearing in the Kitchener Record of May 20th, telling of the welcome to Rev. Clayton Becker, formerly pastor of Dashwood Evan­ gelical Church and his wife: The congregation of the Evangel­ ical Church last night officially wel­ comed its new pastor, Rev. Clayton Beckei’ and Mrs. Becker. The recep­ tion was held in the church parlors. Mrs. J. E. Bingemian, president o-f the Women’s Missionary Society, met the guests who in turn were introduced to Rev. and Mrs. Becker by Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Borth. Howard Hostetler presided. S. D. Peacock welcomed Rev. and Mrs. Becker on behalf of the older mem­ bers of the congregation and Clare Weber on behalf of the younger members. Reeve W. R. Hostetler gave the new pastor and his wife the official welcome from the village. Rev. H. R. Mosig, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church and president of the New Hamburg and District Minis­ terial Association extended the wel­ come from the association. Rev. J. W. Hisey of the Baptist' Church also extended .greetings. Rev. Mr. Becker replied fittingly. “With Christ as our common founda­ tion we will go forward together,” he said. He extended an invitation to everyone to come to him at any time and ask for the prayers of the people in their behalf. Special music for the occasion Was a number by the Junior Choir, a violin solo by Tommy Kirkpatrick and a vocal solo by Donna Merner, Rev. Mosig closed the meeting with prayer. Lunch was served by the women of the congregation. CREDITON Mrs. Roy Bennett, of Detroit, who has spent the past week at the home of her parents, Mr, and Mrs, Albert King has returned Lome accompan­ ied by her sister Mrs. Vera La Vigne of Windsor who has spent a couple of Weeks in Toronto visiting her daughter Mrs. B. Hamilton and visi­ ting in Crediton with her mother. Mrs. Albert King is under the doctor’s care. We hope that she will have a speedy recovery. Lloyd England who is in Camp Borden with the C.P.’C. was home for the week-end. Miss Pearl Vanatter, of London, accompanied Miss Ruth England who is also working in Londou home for the week-end. Those attending the funeral of the late Charles Zwicker from a distance were Chris Zwicker of Lon­ don, Miss C. Zwicker of London and Mrs. J, R. Hallman of Toronto. Dr. and Mrs. Carl Morlock who is in the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minesota is visiting with the for­ mer's parents Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Morlock. The many firends of Mr. H. K. Eilber will be very sorry to hear of his illness. He certainly missed around the town both by his friends and his clients. We all wish to see his usual self as soon as possible. Miss Kathleen Russell had the misfortune of hurting her leg and has been unable to be at school. Mrs. Lawrence Wein is supplying at present. The special program was following with Mr, Herb. Mitchel as leader. Recitations were given by LaBelle Hill, Melba King, Stanley Hill and Patty Cham­ bers. A solo by Winnifred Mack, duet by Edith and Phyllis Hill and a chorus by Mrs. Trevethick and Miss M, Chamber’s classes. A read­ ing was given by Lois Swartz and the story, “A Christian Home,” was .given by Mrs. Ted Lamport. “Moth­ ers of Canada” was given by four girls, Ila Tilley, Joyce Chambers, Eunice King and Elaine Mitchell.
