Flight Sergeant and Mrs. E. J.
Alto, of No. 9, S.F.T.S. Centralia,
are spending their leave at Mr.
Alto’s home in Vancouver B.C.
Mr. Wm. E. Turnbull, of Dash
wood, left Thursday of last week
for Vanvouver, B.C., where he will
spend the winter with his son

Sgt. Clarence McDonald, who re
cently graduated as an air gunner
at Mount Joli, Que., is spending an
extended leave with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Jos. McDonald, Exeter
North.

Miss Joyce Payne who has been
visiting for the past week with her
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Simon
Greb, has returned to her home in
Toronto accompanied by her grand
mother.
Miss Agnes Cutting when going
out to work at Canadian Canners
had a bad fail down the steps. X-
rays taken showed no bones brok
en but she was confined to the
house for a week with a sprained
knee and a bruised leg. She is able
to be out again.

Dies in Toronto.
Miss Mabel Hersey, O.B.E., super
intendant of nurses at Montreal’s
Royal Victoria Hospital until her
retirement five years ago, died
Tuesday at the home of two sisters,
she was 71, and had been in
health for some time,
A former resident of Exeter,
Hersey was superintendant of

she came to Toronto to live with
her sisters, Miss Lillian Hersey and
Mrs. Gertrude Cochrane.
Miss Hersey was president of the

Charles Baumgarten Dies
in Stephen Township
The death took place at his home
on the 16th concession of Stephen
Township on Saturday last of Mr.
Charles Baumgarten who passed
away suddenly in his 91st year. De
ceased was born in Germany where
he was united in marriage and
came to 'Canada when thirty years
of age. He first settled at Crediton
and has lived at Shipka and Dash
wood. He was a member of the Ma-
cabees and of the

Christmas Concert
The concert given in the school
house at S.S. No. 4, Hay, Friday
