Allan and Mrs. Gould, of London, are visiting for a few days with relatives. Mrs. W, J. Carling left Wednesday for London to spend the winter with her son Thomas. Mr. Jas. Jewell, of London, visit­ ed for a few days last week with Rev. J. W. Down. Mr. Mini, E. Middleton, who has been ill with pneumonia, is again able to be around. Mrs. Charles Snell, of London, spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs, Amos Darling. Mr. Jack Newcombe, of Stratford, spent the week-end visiting his mother, and other relatives. Mr. Orville Webber is confined to his home with a broken toe on his left foot, having dropped a weight on it one day last week. Mr. George Etherington, of Ex­ eter, is seriously ill at the home of his son, William Etherington, of Thames Road. Sgt. Ted Wilson, Mrs. Whsuu and daughter, of London, visited over the week-end with the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Wilson. Flight Sergeant and Mrs. E. J. Alto, of No. 9, S.F.T.S. Centralia, are spending their leave at Mr. Alto’s home in Vancouver B.C. Mr. Wm. E. Turnbull, of Dash­ wood, left Thursday of last week for Vanvouver, B.C., where he will spend the winter with his son bur. ACI Jack Whittle, who has stationed at Gimli, Man., has moved to Lachin e and is at present visiting with Mr. and Mrs. N. Stat­ ton until after Christmas. Sgt. Clarence McDonald, who re­ cently graduated as an air gunner at Mount Joli, Que., is spending an extended leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jos. McDonald, Exeter North. Mr. and Mrs. George Leslie and Helen will spend the Christinas week-end with Mrs. Leslie’s cousins Mr. and Mrs. John Grieve and family at Wilton Grove Ont. Miss Joyce Payne who has been visiting for the past week with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Simon Greb, has returned to her home in Toronto accompanied by her grand­ mother. Miss Agnes Cutting when going out to work at Canadian Canners had a bad fail down the steps. X- rays taken showed no bones brok­ en but she was confined to the house for a week with a sprained knee and a bruised leg. She is able to be out again. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Wareing, Mr. J. K. Morlock, Organist I Lawrence A. Wein, Choir Leader Miss M. F. Hersey, Retired Nurse Dies in Toronto. Miss Mabel Hersey, O.B.E., super­ intendant of nurses at Montreal’s Royal Victoria Hospital until her retirement five years ago, died Tuesday at the home of two sisters, she was 71, and had been in health for some time, A former resident of Exeter, Hersey was superintendant of ses at Montreal hospital from until her retirement in 1938, when she came to Toronto to live with her sisters, Miss Lillian Hersey and Mrs. Gertrude Cochrane. Miss Hersey was president of the Canadian Nurses’ Association for a three-year term, starting in 19 28. During her term of office visited England, was granted audience by Que&n Mary, toured Buckingham Palace. De­ ceased was born in Germany where he was united in marriage and came to 'Canada when thirty years of age. He first settled at Crediton and has lived at Shipka and Dash­ wood. He was a member of the Ma- cabees and of the church, Dashwood, by two sons and Chris, on the 16th from where the funeral William of Portage Man.; Mrs. Guy Manwell and Mrs. H. V. V. Mr, Rowe read excerpts from letters received from G6rdon Beiber and Gerald Campbell from overseas thanking the section for the boxes received, They arrived in fcood shape and the contents were much appreciated. The proceeds amount­ ing to $17„00 will be divided be­ tween the Senior and Junior feed Cross.
