A White Gift Service is being held in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sunday, December 26 at 11 p.m., when the classes of the Sabbath School will attend the service with their teachers. Rev. Joseph Taylor will bring the special Christmas mes­ sage and the choir will sing Christ­ mas music. Mr. William Love, who has taught the Bible Class of the Uni­ ted Church for the past number of ye.ars was presented with a purse of money by the members of the class in recognition of his faithful services. Wohelo Class Meets The December meeting of t^e Wo­ helo Class was held in the school­ room of .the United Church on Friday evening with Mr. Edison Forest pre­ siding. (After singing “Away in a Manger”, the Lord’s Prayer was re­ peated in unison. The Scripture les­ son Luke 2-20 was read by Ross Forrest, aftei* which “Hark the Herald Angels Sing.” Following the business Miss Ellis took the topic entitled “The Story of Mary, the Mother of Jesus”, which was most interesting. The meeting closed by singing "Silent Night, Holy Night” and the benediction. Miss Violet Mc- Clymont presided at the piano dur­ ing the program after which contests were conducted by Miss Mary Good­ win and Edison Forest. A social hour followed in which refreshments were served. Sunday School Concert The Sunday School concert of Carmel Presbyterian Church was held oh Monday evening and was largely attended. Rev. H .Turner, Marie, Rev. and Marie were at Mr. and Shipka. Un Thursday evening, December 23rd, Brinsley United Church will hold their Christmas concert. Come and enjoy the evening. P/O Lewis Faist who is stationed at Dunnville visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. Faist last week-end. Mrs. Rodney Bowman, who has been with her husband at the East Coast, is home visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Gettinger. Rod­ ney is now stationed at Woodstock. Wallace Palmer, of the R.C.A.S.C. at Medicine Hat, arrived home Tues­ day for a few days leave over Christ­ mas. The Crediton Public School had their Christmas Concert last Monday evening. A very good crowd turned out to see the program. Although many children had been sick with flu and some were sick that night, everything went over very well. The presence of the music teacher, Law­ rence Wein, was missed but Mrs. Emry Fahner kindly helped out. Mr. L. H. Turner, chairman for the evening, gave the teachers, Miss K. Russell and Carman Whitmore, and the pupils a hearty vote of thanks for the concert. The evening closed with a visit from Santa Claus. Five dollars of the proceeds of the con­ cert was donated to the Queen’s War Fund by the pupils. The flu is still holding on to a few homes. Some have taken a re­ lapse and have found it very weaken­ ing. Mr. I-Iugo Schenk, who for the past few weeks, has been in the hos­ pital in London, returned home last Sunday. We all wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him wield­ ing the butcher knife again. The village school bell tolled its last knell for 1’943 last Tuesday. It will not be heard again until Mon­ day morning, January 3. The teach­ ers, Miss K. Russell and Carman Whitmore, wish at this time to wish S. S. No. 5 a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. A lady’s white silk scarf and a man’s collar pin was found in the Town Hall after the Christmas con­ cert. If anyone has lost these would you please call at Lawrence Wein’s and get them. Christmas is only a few days away. The farmyards are sure losing their population of ducks, geese and turkeys. Several homes have lighted Christmas trees. The program corisisted of readings, dia­ logues, Songs, drills and a Christ­ mas pageant. Annual Meeting The Ladies Aid and W.M.S. of the Evangelical church held their annual meeting at the parsonage. The president, Mrs. G. Wildfong, took charge for a short devotional period. The meeting opened with a Christ­ mas hymn and all repeated the Lord’s Prayer. Mrs. G.
