Miss Violet Hyde attended the funeral of the late Mrs, McMartin at Brussels Monday, Miss Dorothy Munn, of London, spent the week-end at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs, Robert Munn, LA'C. Donald E. McKinnon, of the R.C.A.F., Clinton Radio School spent the week-end at his home here. Miss Norma Cook, of Western University, London, spent the week end at the home of her parents, Mr, and Mrs. N. E. Cook. Mrs, Chas, Steer returned to her home in Mount Brydges after spend ing a week at the home of her son, Dr, D, G, Steer, Mrs, Turner, of Clinton, has pur chased the red brick dwelling in the west end of the village from Mrs. George C. Petty. Spr. Glenn Love returned to Tor onto after spending a few days with his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and, Mrs, John E. McEwen, Mr. D. G. Steer and Patsy return ed home after spending a week with the former’s mother, Mrs. Ger trude Brazier, in London. Mr, and Mrs. John Farquhar and Graham spent the week-end visi ting with relatives and friends in Exeter. Mr. Robert Keyes, of Exeter visited recently with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. John E, Mc Ewen prior to leaving for Kingston. Mr. and Mrs. Herb Britton and family, of Dublin, visited recently with the latter’s mother, Mrs. Han nah Workman and Mrs. Norman Stanlake. A most successful bazaar and afternoon tea was held in St, Paul's Anglican Schoolroom on Saturday afternoon, and a gratifying sum was realized from the sale. The December meeting of the W.M.S. of Carmel Presbyterian Church will be held in the school room of the church on Thursday, December 9, at 3 p.m. Rev. Joseph Taylor conducted services in Caven Presbyterian Church, Exeter, Sunday morniing and declared the pulpit vacant. Rev. John Galloway former minister of the congregation having retired fronr the ministry. Mr. Wm. Isaacs, a student of Western University, London, con ducted the morning service in Car mel Presbyterian church in the ab sence of the minister. Rev. Joseph Taylor, who was conducting service in Caven Presbyterian church in Exeter. Mrs. Donald Park, Highway No. 4- north has disposed of her farm to Mr. Chas, O’Brien, of Usborne, who gets possession the first of January. Mr. O’Brien had the mis fortune to lose his entire stock and feed when fire destroyed his barn several weeks ago. Group two of the Ladies’ Aid, of Carmel Presbyterian Church were pleasantly entertained at the home of Mrs. George Walker. Chinese checkers were played. First prize was won by Mrs. Walker, consola tion by Mrs. McAllister. Lunch was served. Fire at Hensail Hensail fire brigade had a run Wednesday evening of last week to a chimney fire at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Morris. Flames could be seen shooting seven or eight feet in the air. However, not much damage was reported owing to the prompt work of the fire brigade which remained at the scene for an hour. Mr. Morris was in Goderich working at the time. Mrs. Duncan McMartin Word has reached Hensall of the death of Mrs. Harriett McMartin, who died suddenly at her home in St. Ca’tharines on Thursday. Mrs. McMartin Was well known in Hen sall, having lived there until the last few years. Her husband, Duncan McMartin, was an employee of the flax mill in Hensall for many years but died some years ago. She was in her 70th year and is survived by five granddaughters whom she Rais ed from early childhood, Mrs.- Ver non Hedden, Mrs. Arthur Prior, Em ily and Elaine, St. Catharines, and Irene, of Toronto. Her only brother, George Ferguson, of Hen sail, died about two months ago. Burial was in Brussels Cemetery. The Late Morrison Priest A former well known resident of Hensall phased away suddenly In Clinton on Saturday evening in the person Of Morrison Priest in his 50th year. Born at Atwood, he Was a son of the late Mr, and Mrs, Jas. Priest, of Hensall, hhd spoilt prac tically his entire Wfe here, and was a Member and regular attendant of St. Pahl's Anglican Chtircli. WOODHAM The regular meeting of the W.M.S. took place in the Sunday School room last Wednesday afternoon, with the president, Mrs. F. Doupe, opening the meeting with a hymn and prayer and conducted the de votional period and business. Mrs. Delmar Johnson convenor of group No. 1, took charge of the Christmas program. After this the election of officers took place, with Rev. A. Laing in the chair. Most all the old officers were re-elected, with the exception of Mrs. Edgar Rodd taking Mrs. C, Camm’s place for convenor of Group 4. The meeting was brought to a close in the usual way. The South Perth regional train ing school will be held at Granton United Church Wednesday at 8 o’clock of this week. All who can from here are invited to attend.
