WAR TIME MEETING
IN LIBRARY, JUNE 2nd
The secretary, r. Creech reported
that a total of $206,309 had been
sclent for parcels and smokes sent
overseas, and $524.00 for 262
sweaters and socks presented to en
listed. men; that the committee had
acted as a clearing house for
designated funds to the amount of
$375045 as follows;
British Victims ............. $1124,61
Navy League ......... ,271.26
Exeter England Fund ......... 314.52
Russian Fund ...... 1312.32
Chinese Fund ..................... 474,34
Salvage to Red Cross ....... 25340
He also pointed out that funds,
were coming very slowly for sol
diers comforts, only $93.92 having
been received in 1943, and that the
balance on hand of $324.54 “was
not sufficient to send even one more
parcel to the (about) 95 boys over
seas. Ways and means were discus
sed how to raise the necessary
money to carry on. District units
and organizations were requested to
help and an appeal is to be made to
the municipal council for pro rata
grants, as it would certainly be too
bad if the sending of parcels had to
be discontinued. With nearly a hund
red men overseas a lot of money is
needed to send parcels and smokes
to them.
C. L. Robertson was elected to
the War Time Committee to rep
resent the Navy League.
The secretary was asked to con
tinue as acting treasurer until the
next meeting. The committee went
on record as favoiing a strong ap
peal for liberal donations for the
Greek War Relief Fund now open
to the public. These people are star
ving and everybody should help.
Members of the Committee ' the
Bank or the Times-Advocate will
accept your donations.
