During the evening the bride and groom of thirty-five years ago received many beautiful gifts and although taken completely by surprise Mr. Horney thanked the donors for their gifts. The evening was spent in games after which a dainty lunch was served and all retired to their respective homes wishing Mr. and Airs. Forest, Carmel Church W. M. S. was 'held on Thurs­ day afternoon with Mrs. A. D. Mc­ Ewen presiding and opened with the Red Cross daily prayer followed by the singing of a hymn. The Scrip­ ture was read by Mrs. Annie Logan and Mrs. Hannah Workman led in prayer. After another hymn the roll call was answered with “prayer”. The minutes were read and adopted and the offering received. Mrs. C. Hudson presided over the business and arrangements were made to visit Bayfield W. M. Hold Baby Band Meeting July meeting of the KippenThe Auxiliary of the W. Al. S. was held at the home of Mrs. T. Workman on Wednesday afternoon, July 10th. Christie, of Exeter, delegate for South Huron to the London'Con­ ference Branch meeting was the guest speaker and was assisted by Mrs. Page, of Exeter and Mrs. W. Thompson, of Centralia. Mrs. Page conducted the worship service at the close of which Mrs. J. Hender­ son sang the Conference hymn. Mrs. Christie’s report was interesting and instructive and she was assist­ ed by Mrs. Page who gave the Mis­ sionary Monthly and World Friends report in the form of a radio broad­ cast showing whether the differ­ ent Presbyterials had increased or decreased in subscription to these two magazines. Mrs. Thompson dramatized the Conference Branch Corresponding Secretary’s report and showed how some Presbyterials in the Conference advanced and some retreated in their work. The singing of the hymn “Time Time To Be Holy” and repeating the Lord’s Prayer brought the meeting to a close. The Centralia War Service Unit 'held their monthly meeting in the schoolroom of the church on Wed­ nesday afternoon of last week. Three quilts and articles of cloth­ ing were made for refugees during the afternoon. On July 12 this Unit delivered to the Exeter Red Cross: 20 pairs of socks, 6 abdominal bind­ ers, 8 slings,' 4 quilts and 11 articles of clothing for refugees. Mrs. Jas. Neil received word on Saturday of the death of her brother-in-law, Mr. Melvin Hazel­ wood, of Vancouver, B.C. The sympathy of the community is extended to Mrs. Lome Hicks in the loss of her mother Mrs. T. Pol­ lock, who passed away at Inverhur- on Beach on July 9th. Mrs. Pollock had been a frequent visitor with her daughter and had made many friends here. Those attending the funeral from here were Mr. and Mrs. Lome Hicks, Air. and Mrs. An­ drew Hicks and Donald. The Women’s Association of Cen­ tralia United Church held its July meeting in the schoolroom Thurs­ day, July 4th. The program was led by Airs. G. Hepburn. The opening hymn was “Blessed Assurance” fol­ lowed by prayer by Mrs. Hepburn. The Scripture was read by Miss F. Davey. The hymn “Face to Face” was sung and a reading was given by Mrs. Alton Isaac followed by a piano solo by Mrs. Hepburn and a reading by Miss F. Davey. The hymn “Stand Up, Stand Up For Jesus” was rung and a very fine article entitled “Caged Bodies and Soaring Souls” read by Airs. Hepburn. This was a story of great souls who have been imprisoned among them having been Peter, Paul and Silas, Sir Walter Raleigh, William Penn, Charles Fox and John Bunyan. The hymn “Jesus Saves” was sung and the president took charge of the business part of the meeting. After the secretary’s and treasurer’s reports it was decid­ ed to give $10.00 to the Red Cross and a .committee was named to pur­ chase whatever is needed just now by the Red Cross with the money. She had been ill for the past nine weeks. She was a na­ tive of York County and was form­ erly Miss Harriett Snider. For the past 16 years she had lived in Ste­ phen Township and had been an active worker in the Ch'urch of God at Grand Bend. Surviving are her husband, one brother, Duncan Sni­ der, of Hay Township, and an adopt­ ed son, Howard, now on active ser­ vice.' A private funeral was held at the home on Saturday at 1.3 0 p.m. ■followed by a public service in the Dashwood Evangelical church at 2 p.m. Interment was in Exeter ceme­ tery.
