The many friends of Mr. John Craig, who underwent a serious operation in Victoria Hospital, Lon­ don, last week are very pleased to hear that he is gradually recovering. Mr. Robert Passmore will conduct morning and evening services in the United Church next Sabbath, and service will be held in the morning only the first three Sundays in Au­ gust,’ when Mr. Robert Passmore will be in charge. Mr Wm.. Daniels, who has been confined to Brantford Hospital for some time as the result of a fractur­ ed hip which he received in an acci­ dent in Brantford, was able to re­ turn to his home here this week. Miss Emma Johnston and her sis­ ter Mrs. Ferguson returned from a pleasant outing with friends at Delhi and Port Burwell on Lake Erie; also with friends at Centre Island, Tor­ onto and Wasago Beach, Georgian Bay. Rev. R. A. Brooks conducted ser­ vices in the United Church Sunday and the choir sang a beautiful an­ them. Miss Bella Smale and Miss K. Dobbs, of Toronto, formerly of Hen­ sall contributed a beautiful duet at the evening service. Rev. R. A. Brook and Mr. W. O. Goodwin sang a duet at the evening service. Rev. W. A. Young conducted1 ser­ vice in Carmel church on Sunday evening was assisted by Rev. James Richardson, formerly of Kippen. An anthem was beautifully rendered by the choir. During the service Mr. Peter Moir, superintendent of the Sunday School presented three Sun­ day School scholars in Mr. Young’s class, namely Eileen Munn, Betty Moir and Audrey Campbell with cer­ tificates for memorization of the Holy Scripture. ...Dancing at Spruce Grove... The Calvary Evangelical church, Dashwood, will be presented next Sunday morning, July 30th wltn a new pulpit bible in loving memory of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ehlers. This bible will be presented as a gift from their son and daughter-in-law, Rev. and Mrs. Jacob H. Ehlers, of Harrisburg, Pa., and it is one of the finest that money can buy. The en­ tire morning service will be devotee to the presentation and dedication of this gift. The choir will render ap­ propriate selections and Mr. W. R. A Visitor From England Mr. Jas. Bates, of Birmingham, England, is visiting his aunt Mrs. Lucy Batten. This grand old lady is the only aunt left in this family, Although she is in her 88th year she attends to her own house and gar­ den and is a great reader and lover of flowers, Y. P. U. Holds Camp Fire Meeting Some forty young people met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. Doupe on Thursday evening. After a sing­ song, a worship service was taken by the pupils that attended summer school at Goderich led by Jack Ur­ quhart. Madeline Gilfillan, Barbara Kirkby, Marion Kemp, Jack Urqu­ hart and L. Richardson gave short talks on their work at camp and Rev. Lewis gave a talk on the stars. The meeting closed by joining hands around the camp fire and singing “Blest Be the Tie That Binds.” Kirkton Blanshard Soft Ball Team Wins Trophy A good number'from, the village and district attended the Farmers’ Rotary picnic held at Queen’s Park,’ Stratford, on Wednesday afternoon. Kirkton won in the first rouna against No. 7 Downie 21-2. The game was a .peculiar one, all the runs coming in the last two frame. In the sixth Kirkton got-eight runs while No. 7 got one, and in the seventh innings Kirkton got 13 runs while their opponents chalked up another. Wib. Cluff as pitcher, Robert Rundle catcher with a great deal of credit to all the boys it was a fine an round game. At six-thirty the same team met North Easthope the semifinal Kirk­ ton scored a 10-0 win. At nine-thirty the local team and Sebringville team were piloted to the diamond by the Stratford band and played the final game under flood light. Kirkton won the tournament 8-3 from Sebringville in one of the most exciting, battles of the day. Hammond holding the spot light for the day. At the conclusion of the game 10-45. Warden W. H. Good presented the Perth County Rural Softball trophy to Mr. Wib. Cluff the captain of' the team. W. Patterson presented both the winners and tne runners-up with soft balls and'bats on behalf of the Stratford Rotary Club. The United Churches of Kippen 'and Hillsgreen held their annual Sunday School picnic in Jowett’s Grove, Bayfield on Tuesday of last week with around two hundred be­ ing present. The Hillsgreen people being in charge and they certainly did select good sport for not only the children but also the grown ups. There were two ball games in the af­ ternoon one team of ladies and one of men. A sumptuous supper was then served by the ladies which everyone enjoyed and then all went home well pleased with another S. S. picnic.
