Mr. and Mrs. Laird Mickle, Billy and Betty left this week for their cottage at Rondeau Park where they will spend their summer vacation. The service in the Carmel church was held in the evening only owing to the holiday season. Rev. Mr. Young preached and the choir sang “Sabbath Bells are Softly Pealing.” Mr. and Mrs. Bert Horton, Mrs. Horton, Mrs. Archie Rowcliffe and Miss Mary McKaig, of Exeter, are sorry to report that Mr. is in very poor health at : time. Mr. Mark Drysdale has had his dwelling on Main street repainted and it presents a very fine appear­ ance. Mr. Fred Kennings did the painting on the dwelling and is at- present working at the home of Mr. James Petty, who is having some painting done. At the morning service in the United church sacrament was ad­ ministered. The choir rendered an anthem “Safely Through Another Week.” At the evening service.the anthem was “I Lay My Sins on Jes­ us.” Rev. Mr. Brooks preached both services. Former Hensall Councillor, D, Nichol, Dies TIRES ON Ihursday, duly 6th, 1939 of at David Nichol, 76, a resident Hensall for half a century, died his home Saturday night. He had been in ailing health for the past five years. Mr. Nichol was a mem­ ber of the Board of Managers of the Presbyterian church, was a former school trustee and village councilor. His wife died some years ago. Sur­ viving are two sons, James and Wil­ liam, of Hensall, a sister, Mrs. Tot­ ter, of Blyth, two brothers, Alex, of Washington and James, of Van­ couver. The funeral, private, was held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at Hensall Union cemetery. Rev. W. A. Young officiated. On Sunday morning the news quickly spread that during the night burglars had entered the butcher shop of Mr. Milford Merner. The thieves entered the back door, open­ ed the till finding only three cop­ pers which they left untouched, hut they left with a supply of meat and sausage.
