Mr. Harold Bonthron, who has been attending Embalming School in Toronto spent a few days this week with his parents Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Bonthron. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Love and son of Kincardine visited last week with their parents Mr. and Mrs. W. Love and Mr. and Mrs. John R. MacDonald. Mrs. W. Hildebrandt, who under­ went an operation recently in Vic­ toria Hospital, London, is improv­ ing and is soon expected to be able to return home. Mr. John Tapp spent a few days last week visiting with his son Dr. Jiames Tapp and Mrs. Tapp and babe in Ottawa and attended the celebra­ tions in honox* of their Majesties. Young with seven new members joining., The choir snng an anthem with Rev. and Mrs. Young soloists, Rev. Mr. Young delivered a very fine sermon on “Loyalty” at the evening service very appropriate to the visit of King George VI and Queen Eliza­ beth. A very pleasant evening was spent at the home of Miss Minnie Reid oxi Friday evening when a dinner­ bridge was held. During the evening Mrs. John Walker formerly Mrs. A. MacDonald was the recipient of a handsome umbrella from the bridge club of which she is a member. Miss Emma Johnston proposed a toast to the bride and Miss Margaret Hob­ kirk replied. The gift was present­ ed by Miss Reid* Anniversary Services The annual anniversary services of Carmel Presbyterian church will be held on Sunday, May 28th. The special speaker will be the Rev. Hr. Miss Margaret Grieve read the Biography of King Georfge VI. Contests and games were enjoyed and refreshments served. W. M. S. Birthday Party The annual birthday party of the W. M. S. of the United Church was held on Friday afternoon. The church was beautifully decorated with spring flowers and the Presi­ dent Mrs. Cross presided over the following program: Violin solo by Miss Greta Lammie, accompanied on the piano by Miss Bella Smale. Ruth Hess and Patsy McDonell sang1 two pleasing duets. iMrs. Craw, of McKil- lop was the guest speaker and de­ livered an excellent address on China and displayed native costumes and numerous other articles. A very dainty lunch was served. Young People’s Hold Final Meeting The Young People’s Union held their final meeting for the season on Monday evening in the United Church with Mr. Ken Hicks presid­ ing. The meeting opened by sing­ ing hymn 110 followed by the Lord’s Prayer in unison. Miss Gladys Lu­ ker played a piano instrumental fol­ lowed by a duet by Ruth Hess and Patsy MacDonell. Miss Pearl Har- pole favored with a patriotic read-- ing. Rev. Mr, Brook and Miss Ruth Brook sang a duet followed by piano solo by Miss Norma Cook. The house was beautifully decorated with tulips and spring flowers and the guests were received by Miss Doreen Farquhar, Mrs. Charles Far­ quhar, Mrs. Albert iSpencer and Miss Mary Farquhar. Mrs. Claud Blowes Hensail, displayed the trousseau and gifts and Mrs. M, ,D. Harmon, of St. Marys displayed the fancy work, dishes, silverware, etc. Tea was poured in the afternoon by Mrs. G. Hind, of Exetex* and in the evening by Mrs. John Consitt, Seaforth, grandmother of the bride poured tea. Mrs. R. Jervis, Clinton; Mrs. E. F. Taman, Blenheim; Mrs. Naughton and Mrs. 'S. G. Rennie, of Hensail served the very lunch to over two hundred guests. Miss Doreen Farquhar has been a resident of the village for the past ten years, being bookkeeper with Bonthron & Drysdale. Peter Mc- delicious Gould-W alker A very pretty wedding was sol­ emnized on .Saturday at eleven­ thirty o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Walker when their daughter Helen Jean, became the bride of George Albert, son of Mr. late Mrs. ceremony A. Young decorated H. W. Gould and the Gould, of Clinton. The wias performed by Rev. W. beneath a beautifully arch of pink and white centred with a large white bell. A profusion of tulips and blossoms made an effec­ tive background. The young couple were unattended. The bride wore a perriwinkle blue chevanier crepe dress with a corsage of Los Angeles rosebuds and lily-of-the-valely. Fol­ lowing the ceremony a delicious wedding dinner was served from a table decorated in pink and white streamers with vases of tulips and centred with the bride’s cake. Misses Barbara and Margaret Shepherd served assisted by Mrs. A. W. Kers- lake. Later the happy couple left amid showers of confetti and best wishes for a honeymoon trip to Toronto. Fox* travelling the bride donned a grey tweed coat, niavy blue dress with white trimmings and xnatching accessories. They will take up residence in Clinton. Hensall Senior Institute Elects Officers The Hensall Senior Institute met at the home of Mrs. G. M. Case on Wednesday evening with a very splendid attendance. Miss Beryl Pfaff president, presided over the follow­ ing program which opened with com­ munity singing. The roll call was answered with the payment of fees. The motto “Do Not Waste Time At Your Hill, Climb It” was very ably given by Miss Minnie Sangster. Mrs. John Walker formerly Mrs. Anna MaciDonald gave a demonstration on “Care of House plants.” Misses Ruth Hess and Norma Sangster sang a duet and Miss Beryl Pfaff and Mrs. W. A. Spencer-Farquhar A very smart May wedding solemnized at the home of Mr. Mrs. Charles Farquhar, Kippen on Saturday at three o’clock when their eldest daughter, Doreen Wilma, be­ came the bride of Walter Cecil, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Spencer, of Hensail. The ceremony was per­ formed by Rev. R. A. Brook, Hensall United Church in the living room before the bay window, effectively arranged with blossoms and white satin streamers festooned to tall standards of snapdragons, which formed a delightful background. The bride .entered the living room on the arm of her father who .gave her in marriage to the strains of Lohen­ grin’s Bridal Chorus played by Miss Greta Lammie, organist of Hensall United Church and looked very charming in an ivory satin floor length gown, with lace redingote. The dress was fashioned with a slight train. The bride wore her mother’s finger-tip veil caught with lily of the valley and carried an arm bouquet of Lord Passmore roses. Miss Dorothy Farquhar, sister of the bride and Miss Mavis Spencer, sister of the bridegroom were the brides­ maid. They were both gowned alike in blue chiffon floor length dresses with shirred jackets and doll hats and carried nosegays of Amer­ ican Beauty roses and white carna­ tions with streamers of American Beauty ribbon. The best man was the bride’s brother, Mr. Aubrey Far­ quhar. During the signing of the1 register Mrs. J. W. Bonthron sang “I Love You Truly.” The bride’s mother Mrs. Farquhar, received in navy blue and the groom’s mother, Mrs. Spencer, received in navy blue with corsage of American roses. There present. Carmel church this week commencing on Sunday morning and dosing on Tuesday ev­ ening. The devotion was ably con­ ducted by Rev. Father Lane of the Redemptorist Order, London. A petition to the county council of Middlesex, requesting the county to put calcium chloride on the part Of the townline running through the village, as a dust preventative was circulated this week.
