Douglas returned hoine this week af­ ter attending the graduation at Tor­ onto Bible Training Schpol from which the former’s son Mr, Andrew McKenzie graduated to Knox College where he will study for the ministry, Mrs. McKenzie, who has spent the past several weeks with her sister Mrs. Anna McDonald and Miss Mary McAsh returned to her home in Brucefield on Sunday. She was ac­ companied home by Mrs. Elizabeth McAsh who will spend a feiw days with her. Mr. and Mrs, Sheldon Coleman and family, of Detroit, spent the week-end with the former’s mother Mrs. Wm, Coleman and aunt Miss Annie e/ Consitt. Mrs. Coleman has been suffering from severe trouble for several weeks but date of writing is somewhat proved. The Hensall Public and Continu­ ation Schools have been ordered closed for a week by the Health Of­ ficer Dr. Smillie owing to an out­ break of Scarlet Fever.- Miss Kilpat­ rick, assistant teacher at the Con­ tinuation School has been confined to her room for the past week with the disease. ■Special services were held in Car­ mel Presbyterian Church on Sunday and were largely attended. At the morning service the minister Rev. .W, A. Young spoke on ‘Our Church’. Special mu?ic was rendered by the , choir who sang two lovely anthems. Mrs. Young and Mrs. W. A. MacLar­ en sang a duet. At the evening service the choir sang ah additional two anthems with Mrs. Young tak­ ing the soprano solo. • A very beau­ tiful trio was also sung. Rev. W. A. Young delivered a very inspiring ser­ mon on “What it Means to be a Presbyterian.” Rev. Hensall Woman 82, Vetoes Modes Now Mrs. Nicholson Horton celebrated her eighty-fotirth birthday quietly at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Pat­ erson. Mrs. Horton is the former Miss Agnes Wren, and was born on the Wren farm east of ChiselhurSt. With her husband ahd family she Resided on the homestead farm for Spears, then lived in Seaforth for fif­ teen years, and for nineteen years has lived here. Her late husband, Nicholson Horton died about twelve years ago. Mrs. Horton has a fam­ ily of Six children; also twenty grandchildren and four great-grand­ children. (Mrs. Horton has spent several winters in California and visits the members of her family iri the West frequently. .She has de­ cided opinions and lias no place for girls smoking and drinking, as sjiieh practices were little in vogue in her earlier years. Krotz, of New Sarepta, Alberta, is representing the North­ west Canada Conference at the Cen­ tennial Conference held at Kitchener this week. Rev. Krotz preached very acceptably at the Evangelical church 'Sunday evening. He gave a fine presentation of the work in the Canadian West from the geographi­ cal and historical viewpoint, Rev, A, E'.’ Pletch is attending the Conference at Kitchener this week. There will be no services at the Evangelical Church next Sunday, May 7. and. Ladies’ Aid The meeting of the Ladies’ Aid was held at the home of Mrs. Cliff Hill on Tuesday evening. The Presi­ dent Mrs. D. Fink'beiner took charge of the Devotional Period. The roll call was responded by 15 members and 1 visitor, Thb members present reported three calls, 41 sick visits, 22 treats, 13 cards, 5 bouquets and 1 plant were sent. The business of the meeting was then transacted. The W. M. S. Convention at Stratford and Mrs. is to be the delegate, took the chair for which opened with a chapter in the Study Book was given by Mrs. Hy. Kuhn which was follow­ ed by a number of choruses. A read­ ing by (Mrs. M. Faist after which a sing song was heJd.'^Reading by Mrs. Hugo Schenk. The meeting was clos­ ed with song and the .Lord’s Prayer, after which a very dainty lunch was served. E, Roppel is attending Conference in Kitchener this week. , Dashwood Memorial Band held a very successful Band Concert in Tie­ man’s Hall on Sunday evening with a large crowd in attendance. Mclsaac, We are very sorry to report that Mrs. Hamacher, who has been con­ fined to her bed nearly all winter is very ill at present. Death of Mrs. George Koch Mrs. George Koch, formerly Miss Anne Schroeder died at her home here in her 78th year. She had been ailing for some time. Her husband died about a year ago. She is surviv­ ed by one sister, Mrs. Henry Kraft, of Dashwood; a son Milford, Utica, Mich and seven daughters, Mrs. Jos. Doerr, of Laird, Sask.; Mrs. Elmer Thiel, Hay Township; Mrs. John M. Dale, Wilton Grove; Mrs. Clarence Tuscany, Mt. Clemens, Mich.; Mrs. Russell Pitt, Thorndale; Mrs. Arthur Weary, Kulkmout, Pa. and Mrs. Jack Attanborough, Windsor. A private funeral service was held at the resi­ dence on Monday at 2 o’clock fol­ lowed by a public service at Zion Lutheran Church, Dashwood, with Rev. T. Luft officiating. The services in the church here were in charge of the pastor Rev. J. Falconbridge. The evening service was a young people’s service. Music was provided by a young people’s choir and the address for the even­ ing was in the form of questions and answers. Two members of the un­ ion asked questions which were very ably responded to by Rev. Falcon­ bridge. The April meeting of the Home and School Club was held in the school on Friday evening, of last week. 'Guests for >the meeting in­ cluded the Shipka and Winchelsea Home and School Clubs and several friends from Goderich. Mrs, Penwar­ den presided and the meeting open­ ed by singing the Home and School song followed by the Lord’s Prayer, Reports were given by the Recording Secretary the treasurer and the cor­ responding secretary, The musical part of the program was put on by the visiting clubs and consisted of a solo by one of the members from Shipka and a piano duet by ladies from Winchelsea. The guest speak­ er for <the evening whs Mrs. Wark from Goderich who gave a very in­ teresting Report on the Convention held in Toronto Easter week. *The meeting was brought to a close with ">God Save Our King followed by the Mizpah benediction. One of the pleasing features of the even­ ing was a mock wedding in which the part of the bride was taken by Mr, Melvin Stade, the groom by Miss Aldene Eagleson, bridesmaid by Mr. Lloyd Eagleson, groomsman by Miss Grace Willert and the minis­ ter by Mr, Alvin Walper. The wee­ ding march was played by Mrs, Wm. Stade. After the ceremony to the tune of ‘“Here Comes the Bride’’ a gaily decorated wagon heavily laden with many useful gifts for the young bride was drawn into the living room by little Shirley Guenther and Billie Willert dressed as bride and groom. An accompanying address was read by Miss Jean Willert. The gifts were then opened by the bride-to-be after which she highly expressed her* ap­ preciation. The remainder of the ev­ ening was spent in playing bingo. Later a dainty lunch was served af­ ter which they departed for their homes wishing Ila much joy and happiness. He was one of the leaders in St. James Anglican Church at Clande­ boye.
