W. A. Young led in prayer, The scripture was read by Miss Beryl Pfaff and the devotional topic was very ably taken by Mr. A. W. Kers lake on “Learning from Experience” After singing a hymn the minutes of the previous meeting were read and adopted. The roll call was called and the business discussed. The topic on a Bible character “Joseph” was very ably taken by Miss Mabel man. Mr. Young then sang lightful solO' and the meeting by singing a hymn and Rev. Young pronounced the benediction. A community sing-song led by Mrs. Young was then taken part in, followed by a demonstration on Health Posters by grades 9 of the Hensall Continuation Prizes were given and the were Mrs. Ivan Smillie and Douglas. Mrs. Maud^ Hedden sang a beautiful solo accompanied by Miss Gladys Luker on the piano. Bryce of Zurich gave a very fine dress on “Care of the Teeth”, very dainty lunch was served. Mc- Patterson; Se- One of the oldest and most re spected residents of Hensall passed away on Thursday in the person of Mrs. Hanftah Patterson, 89, widow of the late Robert Patterson. The deceased whose maiden name was Hannah Ingram, Had been in active health until about three weeks ago, when she had the misfortune to fall and had been confined to her bed until her death, She spent her entire life in ducted years, •in the Rev, W. The church was full showing the es teem with which the deceased was held. The hymn “Nearer to Thee” was sung by a quartette comprising Rev. W. A. Young, W. A. MacLaren, R, Y. MacLaren and Jas. Bengough, at Mrs. Patterson's request. The pall bearers were Messrs. Petei’ Moir T. Hudson, R. D. Bell, W. R. Davidson, R. Y. MacLaren and Dr. Moir. Inter ment being made in Hensall Union cemetery. Mrs. Patterson is survived by one son, James, Clerk of Hensall, three stepdaughters, Mrs. A. Dou- gall, Mrs. Kate Bengough, Hensall, Mrs. A. Murray in the West; also two- step sons J. F. Patterson, Tor onto and Robert, of Calgary. Two brothers Alex, of Hensall and Geo. Ingram, of Portland, Ore., and three sisters, Mrs. Robt. Eacrett, of Lon don; Mrs. Richard Speare, of Cal gary nd Mrs. Jas. Dougall, White water, Man., also survive. The funer al was attended by relatives and friends from Calgary, Detroit, Lon don, Goderich, Woodham, Exeter, Cromarty, Toronto, and Marlette, Mich. . Young People Elect Officers [ The Young People's Union of the United Church Hensall, held a very successful “Pot-luck Supper” which proved to be a banquet in the church on Monday evening. The tables ’ were beautifully decorated with ■ crape paper trimmings and candles >! in tall tapers. Community singing ! | was led by Mr. Claude Blowes with ■ Miss Greta Lammie at the piano. Revs R. Miss Elva Mc Queen played a piano instrumental and Mr. Claude Blowes and Mr. W. Spencer sang a duet, accompanied by Miss Greta Lammie. After singing the National Anthem the benediction was pronounced. The following Tuesday mission study was conduct ed speaking on “Ministry of Mercy.” The next week the society met at Pfile’s <Hall which was beautifully decorated for a Christmas social. A Christmas tree was also put up by the committee, surrounded by ious gifts. Most of the evening- spent in progressive euchre, highest prizes going to Dorothy der and Elgin Rader while the con solation prizes went to Hedwig ■Schendell and Lloyd Willert. Pletch of the Centen nial Evangelical Church, Stratford, preached very acceptably both morn ing and evening last Sunday in the Evangelical Church. Miss Evelyn Tweddle, of West Mc Gillivray, is visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Alton Isaac. Mrs. Isaac is on the sick list. Mrs. Thompson remained for the funeral of Mrs. Arthur Brooks which was held on Monday of this week. Mr. Wm. Bowdefi, who has been a patient in Victor.a Hospital, London, for ten weeks was able to return to his home on Sunday. The Centralia Home and School Club will hold its January meeting ,n the school on Friday evening Jan uary 27. A further announcement of this meeting will appear in next week’s paper. The sympathy of this community is extended to Mr. Arthur Brooks and family in their sad bereavement.
