NEWS
FROM WALTON
Duff’s to host Christmas Eve service
We begin by wishing all a Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year.
May you all enjoy this holidayseason with your families andfriends. May your travel be safe, your wishes come true and you
remember the reason we celebrate
the season. Health and happiness to
all from myself and the McDonald
family.
The weather again is the most
popular subject these days. Stormy
weather last week held attendance at
functions down, made travel a little
tricky, gave an extra day off school
for some children and which gave
some people the chance to get extrathings done in the house. Better to beinside than out!Friends of Merle McIntosh are
sorry to hear she is a patient in
Listowel Hospital after suffering a
fall. We hope she has a speedy
recovery from her injuries. We are
happy to hear George Adams is
home from hospital and we hope he
continues to improve.
Returning from a week’s vacation
is Doug and Gail Schroeder. They
spent a wonderful week with Gail’s
sister Joan and husband Harry
Daniels in South Carolina. The men
enjoyed their time golfing and Doug
reports that it is somewhat un-
nerving when the alligators are
watching you tee off. The ladies
spent time driving around the area
looking at the interesting sites. They
would choose a unique dining site
for their evening meal. They enjoyed
good warm weather with one hot
day. A lovely relaxing time away.
Neil McDonald is here from
Vancouver for a short visit. We all
enjoyed a Christmas with our Aunt
Peg Rogerson including Neil, Karin
and Rick and myself, last Sunday,
before his return to the west. We
enjoyed a lunch at the China Palace
in Clinton and then went to Aunt
Peg’s for a visit.
The Walton Hall was the venue for
a family Christmas on the weekend.
The Machan family of Blyth used
the hall for their celebration
together.
The family of Mary Humphries
gathered at the common room at
Huronlea Home to enjoy their family
Christmas. Members of the Walton
Hall Board catered a roast beef
dinner for them to enjoy in the
afternoon. They then spent the rest
of the afternoon with gifts, games
and laughter among the 26 family
members.
Chris and Shelley Smith and
family, Lexi, Delayna, Hudson andBennett have returned from a welldeserved holiday. They went on acruise and made stops at Cozumel,
Roatán and Belize. They enjoyed
great weather and the food was
amazing. There were many great
shows to see and the boys report
learning how to snorkel. They really
enjoyed it and they saw many kinds
of colourful fish. They had one day
of rain at Belize, but it was a very
warm rain, and did not dampen the
fun. They went zip lining and it was
great! They returned to the area and
all the snow and report a wonderful
time was had by all.
Congratulations to Brad and
Becky Stephenson on the birth of a
second son. The new addition,
Ryder, is welcomed home by big
brother Case. Celebrating his birth
are grandparents Les and Susan
Stephenson and John and Ruby
Bylsma.
Here are reminders about what’s
happening at Duff’s United Church
over the Christmas season. All are
invited to a social time following
church service on Sunday, Dec. 22.
Coffee and muffins will be served,
so join us for a merry time before
Christmas! The Christmas Eve
service in Walton begins at 7 p.m.
Rev. Peter and friends will lead the
service to celebrate the birth of
Jesus. All are invited to attend
service at Duff’s United.
Celebrating birthdays over the past
week include Emma Taylor, Destiny
Dunbar, Emma Baan, Elsie Carter,
Jackie Clarke, Nanci Ducharme,
Tracey Eckert, Dustin Fritz, Kim
Kruse, Anne Clark, Jody White,

Jingle bell rocks
Matthew Schlosser, left, was really getting into his class’s
rendition of Jingle Bells during North Woods Elementary
School’s Christmas concert on Tuesday night. Olivia Van
Beek, right, was no slouch either, ringing those bells like
there was no tomorrow. (Denny Scott photo)
