PAGE 31.MRES students bake the perfect Christmas cookies Mrs. Evers’ Grade 1 class has a thing for gingerbread and chocolate chip cookies. Aside from loving both the classic and the not-so-classic Christmas cookies, they have some interesting baking ideas. “I like gingerbread cookies. You start by getting the shape cutters and then mixing all the sugar and stuff in a bowl. Then you put them on a pan and cook them and after you use the cutter to make the shapes. Then you put them in the oven for a couple minutes, put the icing on them then eat them all as fast as you can. Sydney B. “I like chocolate chip cookies. First, if you make them, you have to make dough and put chocolate chips in it. Then, to make the cookies, you put them in the oven. Then you pull them out and eat them.” Morgan C. “I like gingerbread man cookies, and my mom would help me make them if I had to. I don’t know how, but she knows how to make every kind of cookie.” Connor F. “I like Christmas tree cookies. They taste like the Christmas trees. It’s a secret to make them, you have to forget how you made them after you make them and eat them.” Dawson H. “I like gingerbread men. You make them with a cutter for gingerbread man. You also have to make decorations for them. You use black decorations for the eyes and a little banana candy for the mouth and gumdrop buttons and black icing for shoes.” Alyssa L. “I like gingerbread cookies. You have to bake them and put icing on them and then you can decorate it with Smarties and jelly beans and then the best part is eating the Smarties.” Logan L. “I like gingerbread man candies. You have some dough and then rub it out with flour and put the cutter on top to make the dough the right size and shape. You have to try not to rip the cookie. Then you decorate it and put it into the fridge until it’s dry, and then you eat it.” Emily M. “I like the sprinkle kind of cookies. They are Christmas-shaped cookies with red and green sprinkles. First, you make a lot of dough then, when the dough is ready, you roll it flat. You can use as much as you want, but you have to cut them into the right shapes. The shapes are like snowmen or snowflakes. Then you sprinkle them with green and red sprinkles and cook them.” Kaitlyn M. “Chocolate chip is my favourite, you have to make it with good chocolate though. First you get normal cookies then you mash the chocolate chips in until they are all inside the cookie.” Gabby M. “I like gingerbread men. When you make cookies, to make them gingerbread, you just put ginger in them. You buy normal cookies or cookie dough and then you put ginger in them and they make gingerbread men.” Tyler M. “I like gingerbread cookies. You make them with eggs, berries, flour and chocolate and ginger and then you mix it. Then you bake it. Then you eat it.” Louis M. “My favourite cookies are gingerbread men. You make them out of dough with flour and ginger. Then you cook it. Then you have a cookie shaper and make it into gingerbread men.” Addy M. “I like gingerbread cookies, you can make them with cookie dough. You take the dough and bake it, then decorate it, then add ginger and then you get to eatit.”Jada Q. “Chocolate cookies are my favourite. If I wanted to make them, my mom would make them. She makes animal cookies. I would just take the animal cookies and putchocolate in them.”Kyrie T. “I like chocolate chip cookies. My mommy would put the white stuff in, then the chocolate in.
