HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2013-12-19, Page 28When it comes to the favourite
christmas cookie treats, Mrs.
Binnoto-Peel’s Grade 1 class at
Maitland River Elementary School
has a clear favourite; chocolate chip.
That said, there were a lot of
different kinds including some
surprising entries. When asked how
they would make their favourite
cookies, some students knew the
recipes, others had some different
ideas.
“I only like gingerbread men with
the cookie and the icing, not the
candy. If I had to make them I would
go to the store and by eggs and
gingerbread powder, salt and milk. I
would put it together and eat it.”
Lucas A.
“My favourite cookies are
chocolate chip. If I was going to
make them for Christmas I would
get my mom and she would help me
and just make it for me. ”
Graham B.
“I like junk cookies, they have
licorice and egg in them. You have to
buy them with your money. You
have to buy treats with your money.”
Matthieu B.
“My favourite cookies are
chocolate chip. You get chocolate
chips and cookie powder and you
spread it on the pan. Then you put it
in the oven to cook and it comes out
in cookie shapes. Then you eat it!”
Dylan D.
“My christmas cookie favourites
are chocolate chip. If I was going to
make them I would get flour,
chocolate chips and mix it all
together. Then I would put it all in a
pan in the oven and put flour on
them again and bake them for four
minutes. Then I would eat them all.”
Sierra E.
“Yeah, I like chocolate chip.”
Jaxon G.
“I like gingerbread men cookies.
My mom makes them but she
doesn’t let us look when she makes
them so I don’t know how to make
them.”
Regan G.
“I like gingerbread men because I
get to put so many sprinkles and
white cream and ice cream on them.
That’s all. I get to put the stuff on
them, I don’t get to help make
them.”
Jackson H.
“I don’t know how to make them,
but gingerbread cookies are my
favourite. I would go buy them at the
store because I don’t know how to
make them.”
Bella H.
“I like chocolate chip cookies. If I
was making them, I would get
help from my mom and grandma.
They make cookies, but not
very often. I might have to buy
them, actually, if my mom and
grandma aren’t going to make
cookies.
Colban H.
“Chocolate chip cookies are my
favourite. I would get the newspaper
guy to help me because he has a
notebook with all the writing in it.
He must have the answer because
he’s asking everyone.”
Phillip M.
“I like chocolate cookies. If I was
going to make them, I’d get some
chocolate chips and some cooking
powder. That’s the powder people
use when they cook. Then I would
mix the cooking powder with the
cookies and put it all in a bowl. Then
I would put the bowl in the
microwave and, after a minute, the
cookies come out all done and ready
to eat.”
Jase M.
“I like chocolate chip cookies. I
would ask my mom or dad to read
the recipe and make the cookies for
me. I would help them by eating the
cookies at the end and making sure
that they came out all right.”
Rylie M.
“I like chocolate chip cookies. If I
had to make them I would get sugar
and flour and mix them together and
them add water and eggs and
chocolate chips and mix it all
together in the bowl. Then I would
bake them for three days and then I

Students in Mrs. Binotto-Peel’s Grade 1 class at Maitland River Elementary School know what
kind of cookies they like and, while some of them even know how to make those cookies, most
have some time to spend in the kitchen before they can claim to be cookie chefs. (Denny Scott
