Movie night set for Dec. 19 at community centre
In celebration of the upcoming
Christmas season the Belgrave
Women’s Institute celebrated with a
festive meal together on Wednesday,
Dec. 11. Thirteen members and four
guests enjoyed the traditional meal
of turkey and all the trimming at the
Blyth Inn.
President Nancy Jardin presented
each person with a table favour and
wishes of the season were
exchanged among the friends in
attendance. Generous food
donations were received to be given
to North Huron Food Bank. The next
regular meeting was announced for
Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 1:30 p.m. at
Knox United Church.
There were five tables of shoot in
play on Friday, Dec. 13 at the
Belgrave Community Centre. The
winners were: high pink card,
Louise Hammond; second high pink
card, Bev Hayden; most shoots pink
card, Mary Ellen Keller; high white
card, Charlie Shaw; second high
white card, Steve Trapp and most
shoots white card, John Pollard.
The next shoot party is Jan. 10.
Everyone is welcome.
Katie Cottrill and Team Flaxey
competed in the Scotties Regional
Competition in Guelph Dec. 14 and
15. Team Flaxey defeated Sherry
Middaugh in the A final event to
qualify for the Scotties Provincial
Championships to be held in Sault
Ste. Marie from Jan. 5 - 12.
Congratulations to Katie and good
luck to Team Flaxey at the
Provincials.
John and Sheila Nixon greeted
worshippers on Sunday, Dec. 15
Advent 3 at Knox United Church.
Rev. Tom Murray welcomed the
congregation and brought
everyone’s attention to the
announcements.
On Thursday, Dec. 19 there is
movie night at 7 p.m. in the
Community Centre. The movie is
Snow Buddies Going to Iceland.
Everyone is welcome. The
children’s Chime choir entertained
followed by the Prayer for God’s
Help read in unison. Verse 3 of the
Candle is Burning followed by John
Clark reading and Rev. Tom Murray
lighting the candle of Joy. Theresponse was the singing of “OCome All Ye Faithful.”
Rev. Tom Murray prayed for
Peace followed by the call to
worship read responsively and led
by Austin Bieman. “Infant Holy,
Infant Lowly”, a Polish carol was
sung by the congregation. The
gathering prayer read responsively
was led by Jenna Hopper.
“When Emmanuel Has Come”
was sung by the senior choir
accompanied by Ann Clark. Emily
Bieman shared in the History of
White Gift Sunday. The Gospel
reading was Luke 1: 26-33. Mary’s
Story was read by Jenna Hopper.
The congregation sang a French
carol, “Jesus, Our Brother”.
The Kids for Christ presented
“Just a Little Christmas” MacKenzie
Wightman played the part of Mary;
Caleigh Hopper, Joseph; Emily
Bieman and Abbey Robinson, the
angels; Austin Bieman, the
Emperor; Hayden Jamieson and
Preston Robinson, shepherds; Jenna
Hopper, narrator. The Three Kings
were portrayed by Preston
Robinson, Hayden Jamieson and
Abbey Robinson.
The children were applauded for
an excellent job.Carols sung throughout were “OLittle Town of Bethlehem”, “Away
in a Manger”, “The First Noel”
and “It Came Upon a Midnight
Clear.”
The offering was taken up by
Allen Walker, Ken Procter, Austin
Bieman and Emily Bieman, the
White Gift offering. After the
singing of the offering praise, the
offering prayer was led by CaleighHopper. MacKenzie Wightman ledthe prayers of the people and The
Lord’s Prayer was repeated in
unison. ’Twas in the Moon of
Wintertime; a native carol was sung,
the benediction blessing read
responsively and the choral closing
concluded the morning worship
service.
Christmas carolling in the village
had to be cancelled due to theinclement weather. Advent 4 -Sunday, Dec. 22 (Christmas Sunday)
we focus on the coming of the son –
Son of Mary and Son of God. On
Tuesday, Dec. 24 the Christmas Eve
Service is at 7 p.m. and is planned to
end at 7:50 p.m. Join us for our
Family Christmas. The Annual
UCW potluck is on Tuesday, Jan. 7
at 6:30 p.m.

Comedy duo

at the Christmas in the Classroom event held on Dec. 17 at
the school. The event, which took place of the more
traditional-style Christmas concert, had students
presenting music and readings in half-hour blocks instead
