Food Share sends its wishes
Learning a new game
For students recognizing International Day of Persons with Disabilities on Dec. 3, the name of
the game was goal ball. Joey Scrimgeour, shown here sneaking a peek under the edge of his
sight-impairing occular, was one of the lucky students at Hullett Central Public School who got
to enjoy the game which is designed for people with impaired vision. The only way students
(who aren’t sneaking a peek) were able to locate the ball was by the bell inside of it. (Denny

BY HULLETT CENTRALSTUDENT COUNCILExciting news was announced to
us this past week. Hullett Central
Public School will be one of the
schools in the area that will be
involved in the Grade 7 and 8 iPad
project. Every Grade 7 and 8 student
in the school will be receiving their
own iPad. They will use it for their
daily learning at school and they will
be able to take it home to continue
their learning.
The students upon graduation will
be able to take their iPad with them
onto CHSS and continue their
learning through this tool.
Mr. Coups and Mrs. Gerber are
very excited to be part of this project
and are looking forward to the
training they are receiving and the
learning they will be doing along
side the students.
Mrs. Bell’s Kindergarten B is
winning the great Amaryllis Race at
the moment. Sheldon and Bryce
reported to me this morning that
their flower is 46 centimetres high, it
has one stem and one bloom that has
started to open. They predict it is
going to be a reddish colour. Mrs.
VanVeen who teaches Grade 4
brought her flower into
Kindergarten A to look after because
hers isn’t doing so well. Bryce and
Sheldon say they have the best
window.
Emily and Clara from Mrs.
Durand’s Kindergarten C reported to
me that their plant has two stems and
two flowers. The tallest stem is 36
centimetres. They know their
blooms will be red in colour because
that is what the picture on the box
says.
Eva and Loralei in Mrs. Moir’s
Kindergarten A class are reporting
that their flower is taking a littlelonger to grow. It is sevencentimetres tall. They are watering
it every other day and they are
talking to it, asking “why won’t you
grow? Please grow.”
Ms Goetz asked if they were
singing and reading to it? She asked
them if that would help. One child
thought it might, the other thought it
just needed time.
Preparations continue for the
school’s Christmas concert which
will be presented by the
Kindergarten to Grade 4 students.
The concert is Dec. 17 at 7 p.m.
Dress rehearsal will be Monday,
Dec. 16 at 9 a.m. Please consider
this your invitation to come and see
the little ones perform.
Student Council has been busy
planning some exciting events. This
week we had Christmas hat and
accessories day. We also had
students donate items for the
Christmas Bureau and Food Bank
this week. This week, Tuesday was
jersey day, followed by Christmas
Costume day on the Dec. 12. Candy
canes will be for sale on the Dec. 16
for 25 cents for students to purchase
for gifts and Dec. 19 will be red and
green day.
Carol sings are planned for Dec.
16 around 10 a.m. following the
concert dress rehearsal, 11:30 a.m.
on the Dec. 18 and 2 p.m. on Dec. 19
THE EDITOR,
It hardly seems possible that 2013
is drawing to a close. The North
Huron Food Share would like to
extend our thanks at this Christmas
season to everyone who over the
year has continued to support our
cause. The continuing generosity of
you, our donors, when approached
to support the Food Share, shows the
thoughtful and caring compassion
that the small towns and rural areas
have for the less fortunate. The
numbers and sizes of the donations
from individuals, churches, service
clubs etc., this festive season, are
truly appreciated.
We have seen another increase in
our clientele over last year but we
are striving to maintain the level of
food distribution to our clients. We
have been able to once again, give
turkeys and hams to our clients at
this Christmas season. On Dec. 4,
we set a dubious record of having 53
families come to the Food Share,
with the rest of the month still to go.
I think that it’s important that people
realize that we only supplement the
client’s existing food and they can
access the Food Share only once a
month. A family of four will receive
approximately $130 worth of food
or roughly one week’s groceries. We
had 10 new families come to the
Food Share this month. These are
not new families moving to
Wingham and area, rather families
that now find themselves a little
short of food at the end of the
month. It takes a lot of soul
searching to finally admit that you
need to come to the Food Share for
assistance.
The directors of the North Huron
Community Food Share are
continuing to come up with new
ideas for food drives, etc. We seem
to be preaching the same message,
every time I write a letter, but the
facts remain, we are in constant
need of food or monetary donations.
When you visualize how much food
53 families require, based on the
information that was mentioned
earlier in this article, the demand is
almost impossible to keep up to. I
am proud to once again mention that
our directors and volunteers, are not
paid for their valuable service to the
Food Share. All the non-perishable
food and monies donated to us, stay
right here at the Food Share. We
have an amazing relationship with
the local food stores in Wingham
and the surrounding towns. They
make us aware weeks in advance of
specials, so we can make our
dollar go as far as possible. We
believe in shopping “at home” to
support our local stores and their
employees, as these are also the
same people who support our cause.
Please know that by your continuing
donations, you are helping
someone’s Christmas season a little
better.
My all-time favourite movie and
especially at this time of year is “A
Christmas Carol”. I leave you with
the immortal last words spoken by
Tiny Tim….“God Bless Us,
Everyone.”
Merry Christmas and Happy New
Year from the North Huron
Community Food Share.
