HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2013-12-05, Page 32Dr. Maarten Bokhout of Central
Huron has been named Huron
County’s interim Medical Officer of
Health.
The announcement was made by
Huron County Board of Health
Chair Joe Steffler at Huron County
Council’s Nov. 29 meeting.
Steffler was recounting the
board’s activity for the month of
November for council, discussing
the dismissal of former Medical
Officer of Health Nancy Cameron
and telling councillors, at the end of
his presentation, that Bokhout had
been named.
Bokhout served as the county’s
Medical Officer of Health in the
1990s, but has more recently been
practising with the Clinton Family
Health Team.
Cameron was officially dismissed
by the Board of Health on
Wednesday, Nov. 29 after a special
meeting held by the board. When
board members rose from the
closed-to-the-public session, they
voted unanimously to dismiss
Cameron, who had served in the
position for approximately five
years.
After the Board of Health’s Nov.
13 meeting, Cameron was placed on
paid leave from her position, only to
be officially dismissed one week
later.
At the time, Steffler announced
that Huron County would be
covered by the London-Middlesex
Health Unit in the interim, however,
Bokhout was then announced as the
interim replacement less than two
weeks later.
In 2012, as reported under the
Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act,
Cameron earned $307,466 and was
Huron County’s highest paid
employee by a margin of over
$150,000.
Earlier this week it was also
announced that the Huron
County Board of Health now has a
new interim senior management
team. Christina Taylor, Tanya
Sangster and Jean-Guy Albert
together will comprise the board’s
senior management team, with
Albert attending board meetings on
the team’s behalf.
Steffler says the appointments are
temporary, but with an
amalgamation with the Perth
County Health Unit possibly
in the future, he says it’s tough
to forecast what the future will
look like.
