North Huron councillors were upset to learn that the Aboutown Northline 1 (NL-1) bus has ceased operation. The bus, which travelled from Owen Sound to London stopping in local areas like Blyth, Londesborough, Wingham and Auburn, provided one of the few transport options through the area. At Council’s Nov. 18 meetingDeputy-Reeve David Riach stated hewould like to forward the information to Huron County Council as it affects North Huron communities as well as other communities in the county. He also suggested discussing the issue with the South Western Economic Alliance (SWEA). *** North Huron Council learned that the Blyth post office will see a reduction in hours. Councillor James Campbell statedthat this was another sign that the post offices are facing closure, an issue that council has talked about for some time. Councillor Brock Vodden, however, saw it is a possible boon in the fight to keep local post offices, stating that the Blyth post office being closed on Saturdays may bring down its costs and thus make it less of a candidate for closures. ***Councillor Brock Vodden reportedthat the Blyth Arena Advisory Board is considering installing free wireless internet at the Blyth Campground for users of the service. Councillor Archie MacGowan questioned whether a cost should be associated, but Vodden explained that the group is looking at it as a service to better accommodate people at the campground. He did say, however, that the funds from such an endeavour could beused to fix the damage caused by“donut-makers” and their ATVs. Vodden reported that the Leaf account, which consists of donations made to the Blyth and District Community Centre, has a “considerable amount of money,” in it and that the committee would look at using it to fund cameras, to stop the destruction of property, and the infrastructure for the wireless internet.
