PATTERSON. In loving memory of
June Elizabeth who passed away
November 30, 2009.
I remember the day I met you,
And the day God made you mine,
I remember the day God took you,
And will until the end of time.
We made our vows together,
Until death we do part,
But the day God took you from me,
My whole world fell apart.
Sometimes I think I’m dreaming,
I can’t believe it’s true,
That I can go on living,
When I no longer have you.
And the memories of the happy
years,
When we were together,
The joys, tears, love and fears,
Will stay with me forever.
And when I’m sad and lonely,
And everything goes wrong,
I seem to hear you whisper,
“Cheer up and carry on.”
Each time I see your picture,
You seem to smile and say,
“Don’t cry I’m only sleeping,
We’ll meet again some day.”

Central Huron Council is a step
closer to adding teeth to its recently
introduced Code of Conduct policy
for councillors as CAO Peggy Van
Mierlo-West has been directed to
create a short list of possible
candidates to take the role of
integrity commissioner.
At Council’s Nov. 19 meeting
Councillor Alison Lobb said she
would like to keep costs down, and
would prefer to hire a local
person for the role, which is a view
shared by Councillor Alex
Westerhout.
Still, at least one councillor
remains opposed to both the hiring
and the code.
“You [Councillor Lobb] are the
last one to want to spend money,”
said Councillor Brian Barnim. “It’s
absolutely ridiculous what you are
doing here.”
Barnim added it is his belief there
is “no code of conduct between
ratepayers.” “There is a code of
conduct as a councillor,” replied
Lobb.
Councillor Burkhard Metzger said
the code is necessary.
“I think the code of conduct is
something we have to have,” said
Metzger. “Who doesn’t want to do
that?” Metzger said the code will
show leadership, respect and address
issues “that maybe have come up.”
“I don’t understand what the
problem with it is,” added Metzger.
Barnim replied a code has not
been required in the years he has
served on council. “Shame on you
for not having one,” replied Metzger.
Mayor Jim Ginn said talking about
the code is pointless since it is in
place.
“It’s completely flawed and we’re
going to have to work off of this. It
is a mess,” said Barnim. Ginn
disagreed.
Councillor Dan Colquhoun said
the point of the discussion is to hire
an integrity commissioner. He said if
Barnim has a problem with the code,
he should put forth a notice of
motion to address it at an upcoming
meeting.
Barnim said council is hiring an
integrity commissioner when
municipal documents say one “may”
be hired.
“It’s a big word in this,” said
Barnim. “It doesn’t say we have to.”
Ginn said the code spells out the
mayor is to first review complaints
made against council under the
code. The mayor can choose to have
an integrity commissioner review
the complaint if warranted.
“I was to look first and if I thought
if there was a need to move it along
to an integrity commissioner I would
do that,” said Ginn.
Municipal staff was directed to
come back with a short list of
potential candidates for integrity
commissioner. “And we’ll deal with
that then,” said Ginn.
Barnim still opposed
to code of conduct
