Church sponsoring annual hockey tourney
Greeting worshippers at Blyth
United Church on Sunday, Nov. 24
was Terry Richmond. Ushering were
Nicole Kerr, Brenda Brooks and
Mary Lou Stewart. Floyd Herman
was music director and Fred
Hakkers ran the power point.
Pastor Sandra Cable welcomed
everyone to church. Reid Button lit
the Christ candle on the altar table.
The introit was the singing of “Wait
for The Lord.” The call to worship
was said responsively and the
opening prayer was said in unison.
The children were asked to come
to the front for their story time.
Pastor Cable had two calendars in
her hands – one was from 2013 and
the second was for 2014. Sheexplained to the children thatSunday’s service celebrated “Reignof Christ Sunday.” She alsoexplained to them it was the last
Sunday of the church calendar as the
new calendar starts in December.
Next Sunday will be the first Sunday
of Advent and we would be lighting
candles the next few Sundays. The
candles will be lit - one each Sunday
to represent hope, joy, peace and
love. The children went downstairs
to their time of fellowship with one
another at Sunday school.
Rev. Cable’s message to the adults
was following the journey of the
Life of Christ. She explained in the
United Church that the colours
change in the different seasons of
Christ Life. The season of Advent is
the colour purple. She had different
colours of stoles to represent each
colour.
The hymn, “All the Earth is
Waiting to be Read” was sung. She
went on to tell the story of Christmas
and she changed her stole to white.
The first two verses of the hymn,
“Joy to the world” was sung. the
choir chose the anthem, “O LittleTown of Bethlehem” written in1865. The next season is the seasonof Epiphany, which is white. Thehymn, “I Am the Light of the World”
was sung. The season after Epiphany
is represented by the colour green.
This is the time in Jesus’ life that He
goes to find John the Baptist to be
baptized.
The season of Lent is the colour
purple. This is the Easter story in
Jesus’ life. We follow Jesus’ journey
to the wilderness, prayer, Jesus
choosing His disciples and His
journey of His ministry.
Holy week is the colour red. The
hymn, “All Glory, Laud and
Honour” was sung. Maundy
Thursday is the colour white. (Good
Friday) The hymn, “Were you there”
was sung. Holy Sunday has no
colour and the season of Easter is
white. The hymn, “Jesus Christ is
Risen Today” as sung. Pentecost
Sunday is red.
David Onn took over the service
and drew everyone’s attention to the
announcements printed in the
bulletin. There was special mention
that Rev. Gary Clark would be the
guest minister on Sunday, Dec. 8.

All our afflictions are appointed by our loving heavenly Father!
(Arthur Pink)
“I was silent, I would not open my mouth, for You are the one who has done this!”
Psalm 39:9
Realizing that it was the chastening hand of God upon him, David refrained from
murmuring. It was not the silence of sullenness, but of meekly acquiescing to the
rod. When we are in our right minds, we shall have nothing to object against God’s
dealings with us, or dispute with them. God is sovereign in the acts of His
providence--and therefore an important branch of our obedience unto Him lies in
suffering His will, as well as in doing His will. That obedience is evidenced by
refusing to repine against Him by the utterance of any impatient words.
Shall vile dust and ashes censure the providential dealings of the Most High God
or impugn His goodness?Let all God’s treatment of us be both wondrous and
righteous in our eyes.
“If our hope is in God for a happiness in the eternal world--then we can well afford
to reconcile ourselves to all the dispensations of Divine providence concerning this
world.” (Matthew Henry)
The consideration that all our afflictions are appointed by our loving heavenly
Father, should silence all complaints. It did so with David. He knew they came not
by chance, but according to divine appointment.
After months of acute suffering, and still in agony of body, the last words of John
Calvin were, “Lord, You grind me to powder, but it suffices me because it is Your
hand.”
“God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. No discipline
seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of
righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it!” Hebrews 12:10-11

North Huron Township Council
found out that, due to the number of
changes being requested by it to the
intersection of County Road 4 and
Highway 25 (Blyth Road), a
deputation to Huron County Council
would be required.
Council had previously requested
that a slower zone be put up on the
eastbound section of Highway 25
approaching County Road 4.
Currently, the zone is labeled a 90
kilometre an hour zone up until the
stop sign.
The request for the change was put
through to the Huron County Public
Works Department.
Council also requested that
flashing lights be put on top of the
existing stop signs to prevent
motorists from entering the
intersection without stopping.
Councillor James Campbell noted
that this change in particular was
important because many of the
people who enter the intersection
dangerously do so travelling
westbound on Highway 25. He
noted that, especially during the pre-
dusk time, sunlight could blind
drivers approaching the intersection
from the east causing them to miss
the stop sign despite the fact that it is
a 60 kilometre an hour zone.
Public Works Director Kelly
Church explained, when asked by
council why it would need to send a
delegation, that the number of
changes being requested were
outside the norm.
Councillor Archie MacGowan had
supported a delegation, but did voice
some concern about the necessity of
it, however Church's explanation of
the situation made things clearer for
MacGowan who said that, since the
red, flashing light is essential, the
delegation should be sent.
