“Whatever He says to you--do it!” John 2:5
How can we know what Jesus says? We cannot hear His voice as the servants at the
wedding heard it.
He speaks now to us in His Word , and the reverent heart may always hear what He
says as the sacred pages are prayerfully pondered.
He speaks in the conscience that is kept tender by loyal obeying.
He speaks in the providence which brings the present duty to our hand.
There never is any real uncertainty as to what He says, if we are truly intent on
knowing His will.
“Whatever He says to you--do it!” It is the doing which is important. We should
never ask questions nor make suggestions, when Jesus has spoken--the one thing for
us is obedience. We should never ask what the consequences may be, or what it may
cost us--we are simply to obey. Jesus knows why He wants us to do the thing--and
that should be reason enough for us.
“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.” John 14:15

Though a fire agreement between
Central Huron and North Huron
proved to be a contentious issue
prior to the last municipal election,
such will not be the case this time
around as council has signed a six-
year fire service agreement. The
motion to approve the agreement
was passed at council’s Nov. 12
committee of the whole meeting.
While Councillor Brian Barnim
questioned entering a six-year deal
when then it will bind the next
council, CAO Peggy Van Mierlo-
West noted the originally proposed
deal was to be six years in length but
Central Huron tried a one-year test
period.
Mayor Jim Ginn noted the
agreement has proved to be
“contentious” in the past but that
there is an “out clause” if Central
Huron needs it.

Cable uses Dickens for service
Greeting worshippers at Blyth
United Church on Sunday, Nov. 17
were Gwen Papple and Marilyn
Craig. Ushering were Brenda and
Lori Brooks and Nicole Kerr. Floyd
Herman was music director and
Connor Brooks ran the power point.
Pastor Sandra Cable welcomed
everyone to church and drew
everyone’s attention to the
announcements printed in the
bulletin and rolling on the power
point. She made special mention that
the ladies were taking order for meat
pies for January 2014. Call
Joann MacDonald if you wish to
order.
Rev. Cable lit the Christ candle on
the altar table. The call to worship
was repeated responsively followed
by the singing of the response,
“Behold, Behold, I Make All Things
New.” The prayer of approach was
said responsively followed by the
singing of The Lord’s Prayer.
The first hymn was the first two
verses of “This is the Day”. The first
scripture reading was from 2
Thessalonians 3: 6-13.
The children were asked to come
to the front for their story time.
Pastor Cable showed the children a
doll she had brought with her. She
showed them that it was a doll
within a doll. She showed them that
there were many jobs in the church
that are done by many different
people and many different ages.
She also told them that Sunday in
the United Church was a day to
celebrate children and show them
how special they are and that they
are important to the structure of the
church as they are the future. She
gave each one of the children a treat
to show how they are appreciated.
The children said a prayer along
with the congregation. The children
went downstairs for their time of
fellowship while the congregation
sang the last two verses of the hymn,
“This is the Day.”
Floyd Herman told a short history
of the anthem, “Amazing Grace”
that the choir was going to sing. It
was a contemporary version of the
song. The prayer of illumination was
repeated in unison.
The Gospel reading was from
Luke 22: 5-19.
Pastor Cable’s message to the
congregation was “Finding Grace”.
Pastor Cable started her message
with a quote from Charles Dickens’
A Tale of Two Cities. “It was the best
of times, it was the worst of times.”
Many of us give up trying when we
fear that the world will end
tomorrow. Paul tells the people to
have faith and it is everyone’s
responsibility to have faith. Jesus
taught us that beauty won’t last. He
mentioned the temple being made of
gold and being shiny would fade and
become dull. Pastor Cable asked the
congregation what worries us about
the world today? The environment,
the world situation, our
governments that can’t agree and
many other things that worry us. We
should trust in God’s promises and
that it is up to us to remain faithful.
People give of their time and talents
to help with maintaining the church
and helping others. It is up to us to
put our trust in God and that He will
carry us through.
Emily Phillips took over the rest
of the service. The hymn “O for a
Thousand Tongues to Sing” was
sung followed by the receiving of
the offering, the singing of the
response “What Can I Do” and the
prayer of dedication. The last hymn,
“The Church is Wherever” was sung
followed by the blessing and
the singing of the “Three Fold
Amen.”
Everyone was invited for coffee,
treats and fellowship.
