What another crazy week of
weather. Farmers are getting a day
here and maybe another day there,
but no consistent days of
accomplishing the fall harvest.
There are still soybeans out there
and lots of corn. The fire at Parrish
& Heimbecker was more extensive
than we thought – but they are
accepting corn.
Our sympathies are extended to
the Wilbee family on the passing of
Ian Wilbee. He will be missed by his
children Keith, Carol and Brian and
their families. Ian was a lovely man
who loved music and loved to dance.
He came from a musical family with
his mother being a piano teacher and
his brother also playing. The trio
would play at church and in later
years the boys started their own
bands. The Ian Wilbee Band played
for many years all over our area and
even played at my wedding in the
1970s. Ian and his late wife Elva
involved their three children in the
family band. Ian was a dedicated
farmer and loved to be out driving a
tractor. Our condolences to all.
We are happy to hear that Lavern
Godkin is home from hospital. We
hope he is doing well. We are happy
to report that Margery Huether is
now at home. We hope she is doing
well with her helpers.
Congratulations to Luke Fritz and
his team for winning a tournament
last week. The Huron-Perth AAA
Atom team travelled to Chicago to
participate in the Bauer Invitational
hockey tournament. There were over
400 teams in the event with over
7,000 hockey players. The team
started slow with a loss and a tie, butthen kicked into high gear and won
all their remaining games to claim
the gold! Congratulations to the
team. Luke was joined by his parents
Greg and Jill and siblings Meg and
Nate.
The Walton Turkey Supper was
held at the Brussels, Morris and
Grey Community Centre last week
and a sell-out crowd was fed. There
were 600 tickets available for sale
and only a few tickets ordered and
left at the door for pickup. The ladies
(and some men) of the UCW worked
hard and many young people helped
out for community service hours.
We see Edith Pipe is out and about
after spending a short stay in
hospital. We hope they are getting to
the cause of her problems. George
Adams suffered a fall and we hope
he is coming along from his mishap.
Sounds like a successful deer hunt
was had by the hunters around. The
standing corn and the wet miserable
weather would not have made it
pleasant, but as hunters, they
persevered and there are a few less
deer around.
The Walton Hall was the venue for
the Armstrong family to gather and
celebrate an early Christmas. They
enjoyed a traditional turkey dinner
provided by the Walton Hall Board
for the nearly 40 attending. Working
for the hall were Jo-Ann McDonald,
Judy Lee and Barb Durrell.
A former Walton couple now
living in Blyth celebrated a
milestone this past weekend. Jake
and Rene Hulzebos celebrated their
60th wedding anniversary with
family and friends .They enjoyed a dinner together at
the Fireside Café on Sunday with
about 25 of their family and friends
travelling from London, Waterloo,
Mitchell, New Hamburg, Listowel,
Goderich and Blyth.
Their anniversary date was Nov. 6
and they received many phone calls
and well wishes to brighten their day
from the Netherlands and around the
area. Congratulations to all.
Celebrating birthdays last week
were Jane Zwep, Jeanne Kirkby,
Darcy McCutcheon, Johnathon
Williamson, Brian Pryce, Danielle
Ducharme, Murray Henderson,
Katie Roth, Barry Hoegy and Tristan
Rijkhoff. Happy birthday to all.

An important job
When you have a famous turkey supper, it’s really
important to have a steady hand managing the turkey.
Diners were in luck as that job fell to Brian McGavin at the
annual Walton Turkey Supper last week. The dinner was
held at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre
on Nov. 6. (Denny Scott photo)COMMEMORATE THE NEWEST
