THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 2013.Central Huron approves amendments after GIS issues Leading in the rain Bagpiper John Jewitt led the Blyth Legion and the Legion Ladies Auxiliary out into the rain at the conclusion of the Legion’s annual Remembrance Day ceremony at Blyth Memorial Hall. (Denny Scott photo) Marking the occasion Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson gave a scroll to Maitland River Elementary School Principal Alice McDowell and an Ontario flag to the school’s student council representative, Joshua Pham, as part of the grand opening of the institution last Thursday. The event was well attended by staff, students, parents and special guests. (Denny Scott photo) At their Nov. 5 meeting, Central Huron councillors held an in camera (closed to the public) meeting to discuss what has proven to be thecontroversial subject of hiring anintegrity commissioner to investigate complaints against council when the need arises. When asked by The Citizen why the meeting was being held behindclosed doors, Mayor Jim Ginn saidlegal counsel had advised council to do so. Council is slated to again discuss the matter in open session at its Nov. 12 committee of the whole meeting. *** Central Huron Council is preparing to take another look at its bylaw enforcement services. During its Nov. 5 council session, councillors discussed the possibility of changing how it handles bylaw enforcement services, given an agreement written several years ago with the neighbouring municipalities of Huron East and Bluewater has not seen many changes except for Bluewater’s decision to opt out of it. “I think we need to maybe take a look at this again,” said Councillor Brian Barnim. Councillor Burkhard Metzger saidhe too would like to review theagreement to see whether changes are in order. Municipal staff has been directed to review the agreement with Huron East municipal staff and report back at a future date. Councillor Alison Lobb also asked that staff look into how other Huron County municipalities are handling bylaw enforcement and how many calls were investigated in Central Huron in the past year. *** Central Huron councillors gave the thumbs up to both official plan and zoning bylaw amendments following a Planning Advisory Committee meeting that revealed former computer assisted design (CAD) mapping technology led to a couple of errors on the subject property owned by a numberedcompany on London Road just southof Blyth. In addressing the matter, Huron County planner Monica Walker- Bolton reported the changes were required to address the issues that were found during a GIS mapping exercise. Walker-Bolton notes the engineer acting for the property owner, BM Ross, wants the official plan amendment to recognize that a drain on the property has unnecessary Official Plan protection while the Zoning Bylaw Amendment is needed to fix current mapping that suggests a creek connects to a point when it does not. *** Council is supporting a surplus farm severance application for a McKILLOP MUTUAL INSURANCE COMPANY Welcomes Todd Wheeler McKillop Mutual Insurance Company is excited to announce the addition of Todd Wheeler to our sales team.
