Ironmen dominate Mount Forest Patriots 12-6
The offence came alive last Friday
evening as the Wingham Ironmen
defeated the Mount Forest Patriots
12-6 in a Western Junior C Hockey
League contest played at the North
Huron Wescast Community
Complex.
Jamie Huber and Aaron
Armstrong paced the offence as each
collected six points. Huber had four
goals and two assists, while
Armstrong had a goal and five
assists.
Contributing single goals were
Travis Donaldson, Ryan McNeil,
Alex Kuntz, Brody TenPas, Darren
Kerr, Justin Jacklin and Blake
Pickering. McNeil, Brett Brophy
and Ryan Stulp picked up two assists
each, with single helpers going to
Kerr, Jeremy Ross and Carter
Stewart, Doug Costanzo had a pair
of goals for the Patriots.
Mount Forest opened the scoring
at 9:49 of the first period, but the
Ironmen came back with three goals
in a span of 59 seconds starting at
13:45. Donaldson scored at 19:05 to
give the Ironmen a 4-1 advantage
after the first period. Wingham
outscored Mount Forest in the
second period 6-1 to hold a 10-2
lead going into the third period. The
Patriots outscored the Ironmen 4-2
in the third period to reach the final
score.
Jaden Shrier started in goal for the
Ironmen, with Nathan Watson
playing the third period. Wingham
outshot the Patriots 40-35 and the
Ironmen were 2-9 on the power play.
Coach Louie Livingston said it
was a good game for the Ironmen,
but they got off to a slow start,
allowing Mount Forest to open the
scoring.
“We didn’t get off to a good start,”
he said. “We kind of woke up. We
got a lot of goals early, we got up a
lot, and that’s what the trouble is
when you get up a lot of goals, you
get a lot of bad habits. And,
that’s what happened in the third
period, I didn’t like the way they
finished.”
The coach said Nathan Watson got
kind of ‘hung out to dry’ in the third
period.
“It wasn’t really fair, he had to
stop a lot of shots in the third period
because we let up a little bit,” said
Livingston.
He noted that the most important
thing was that the Ironmen got the
win and a lot of guys got some goals.
The coach said they got some
secondary scoring in the game.
“That’s what we got to have, and I
think that’s really helping,
everybody’s kind of getting some
scoring,” he said. “We’re working
hard when we have to and that’s one
of the main things.”
Forward Huber said it was a great
team effort and everybody worked
hard and the passing was always on.
“The team played great and
awesome tonight.” he said.
Huber said he was really
happy with his four-goal
performance.
“I was happy with that, really
happy with that, but like the last
time, it was my linemates were
setting me up,” he said. His
linemates were Ryan McNeil and
Aaron Armstrong.
“My linemates are the key to my
success, they’re just awesome. They
make we totally better out there.
Playing with both of them, very
high-skilled players, they’re unreal,
just great,” said Huber.
The Ironmen are on the road for a
pair of games this weekend. On
Friday, they travel to Hanover for an
8 p.m. game against the Barons and
then on Saturday they travel to
Mount Forest for an 8 p.m. contest
against the Patriots.

Leaving Mount Forest in the dust
Despite a big win on the weekend, the Wingham Ironmen are still just one point away from
tying the first place Walkerton Hawks. The Ironmen posted a 12-6 win over the Mount Forest
Patriots on Friday, but it wasn’t enough as one overtime loss still keeps them one notch away
from the Hawks who lead the league with 23 points. (Jim Brown photo)

The broomball season has begun and the Blyth PeeWee
