Judgement in the sexual abusecase of former Auburn residentGabriele DelBianco will have towait until at least mid-Decemberafter testimony wrapped up last week. Final submissions from both sides are set for Dec. 18 in Sarnia Superior Court, with the decision of Justice Joseph Donohue scheduled to bedelivered the next day.As reported by Neil Bowen of theSarnia Observer, Donohue said heexpects two issues to take centre stage during final submissions: the potential of consent to the sexual activities and the reliability of the evidence given at the trial, which lasted just under five days.DelBianco, who has pled notguilty, was facing 16 charges fromthe 1980s at the beginning of thetrial. The number of charges, however, was increased to 18 on Oct. 17 to agree with testimony from DelBianco’s four alleged victims. The court heard testimony fromDelBianco’s fourth alleged victimon Monday, Oct. 21. She testified tohaving a sexual encounter withDelBianco when she was in Grade 7. She said that prior to undergoing therapy, which was paid for by the Catholic church, she had no conscious memory of any sexual abuse. It was after her memorycontinued to clear, she told the court,that she reported the incidents to theOPP in 2011.DelBianco served as a priest through the Catholic church at churches in Windsor and Wallaceburg until he left the church in 1996.
