Murray and Wilma Scott of East Wawanosh celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Belgrave Community Centre on Oct. 27. On Oct. 26, 1963, Wilma Dale, daughter of Bill and Marjorie Dale of Hullett Township, and Murray Scott, son of Walter and Alice Scott of East Wawanosh Township were wed by Rev. W.M. “Mac” Carson at the Constance United Church in Kinburn. The couple was attended by sisters of the bride Deanna (Snell) and Laurel (Wilson), friend of the bride Jean Funnell and brother of the groom Alan Scott and friends of the groom David Sanderson and the late Don Glousher. The couple then travelled to Niagara Falls and Northern Ontario to celebrate their nuptials. After their honeymoon, Murray and Wilma became life-long farmers in East Wawanosh with each pursuing several of their own passions. The couple has three children, Melanie Pletch, her twin Meribeth Vlemmix and son Jeff Scott. They also have four grandchildren, Scott, Meagan, Ben and Amelia Pletch. Murray was a 4-H Club leader for over 20 years for beef and horse clubs as well as being past director of Howick Mutual Insurance and past president of the Blyth Fall Fair Board. He was a councillor in East Wawanosh from 1994 to 2000 and, after amalgamation, was Deputy- Reeve of North Huron and a Huron County Councillor from 2000 to 2011. Wilma has been actively involved in the operation of the farm as well as nurturing a lifelong interest in gardening. She is the co-owner of Christmas Country Flowers and Gifts with her sister Deanna. Both Murray and Wilma have been involved with conservation projects since 2005 including hosting a wetland demonstration project on their farm. In 2011, the couple retired, but didn’t go far, moving to a residence across the road from the home farm which is now owned by their daughter Melanie and her family. The duo are still very involved in caring for the family farm and maintaining the conservation project on their land. Guests at their celebration included bridesmaids from their wedding Deanna and Laurel with their partners Harvey and Ken, as well as Alan and Margaret Scott, Kathy Dale, Cheryl and Doug Phillips and a number of cousins of both the bride and the groom.
