(18+) Connect with Ontarians – extend your business reach! www.networkclassifi ed.org Youths help clean Auburn park I hope you had a great Thanksgiving this past weekend. I was on my best behaviour at my in- laws in Aurora along with my wife and one of my daughters. I love Thanksgiving because I love to be thankful. A group of the Huron Chapel youth put the “giving” in Thanksgiving this past Friday when they set out into the community to work. Youth Leader Rob Campbellsaid they are wanting to put Jesus’words, “Love your neighbour” intoaction. The group headed over to the park in Auburn and pulled out weeds around the fence line, they raked leaves and picked up some garbage as well. When they finished there they visited some private residences where they did some yard work for some grateful homeowners. By Mark Royall Call 519-441-2223 PEOPLE AROUND AUBURN NEWS FROM AUBURN ESTC ready for marine training With the delivery of some marine training equipment, the Emergency Services Training Centre (ESTC) in Blyth can now host, through a new partnership, specialized training through Georgian College. The training, which will be provided to marine engineering and navigation cadets in Blyth, required equipment that would mimic the experience of entering and fighting fires in a marine environment. To that end, a modular shipping container was delivered last Friday that included both a ship door and ceiling hatch to provide that kind of experience. Captain Peter Buell, director of the Great Lakes International Marine Training and Research Centre, explained that while the interiors of boats are now more like that of an office building or home, the exterior water-tight doors and hatches are unique. That unique nature requires additional emergency training. The new training equipment simulates both the experience of opening those watertight doors and hatches and prepares firefighters for the inherent dangers in moving around and through them. Stephanie Currie, the Program Co-ordinator for the ESTC, stated in a press release that the delivery of the equipment opened up new opportunities to the centre. “In addition to the cadet programs, training [can be] provided to all segments of the marine industry,” she said. She also said the partnership provides the opportunity to work with “an outstanding institution.” Marine training Captain Peter Buell of the Great Lakes International Marine Training and Research Centre, left, and Stephanie Currie, program co-ordinator for the Emergency Services Training Centre (ESTC), were happy to unveil a marine training unit for the ESTC late last month. The new unit will allow the centre to provide specialized training in partnership with Georgian College. (Denny Scott photo)
