North Huron Council approved
the purchase of a new four-wheel
drive utility tractor for use in Blyth
at its Oct. 7 meeting.
Two tenders were received for a
tractor to replace existing machines
that salt and sand the sidewalks as
well as clear sidewalks of grass. The
machine will also reduce usage on a
new 100 horsepower John Deere
tractor that is used in Blyth.
The tractor that was chosen,
however, was not the lowest of the
two tenders.
Director of Public Works Kelly
Church suggested the purchase of a
2014 Kubota L4060 four-cycle
diesel tier four-engine tractor for
$41,800 plus HST over a 2013 John
Deere 3720 three-cycle diesel tier
four-engine for $40,850 plus HST
for several reasons.
The winning tender was provided
by Roberts Farm Equipment near
Lucknow because the specifications
in the tender called for a four-cycle
engine and it’s a newer model.
Church also noted the attachments
for the machine are made by Kubota
and specific to the tractor. The John
Deere, however, uses third party
attachments that are made to fit
multiple styles and makes of
tractors. Church said that the Kubota
attachments were of higher quality.
This marks the third and last
purchase of equipment for the
department for the year and Church
mentioned that they are below
budget for the purchases.

A great sale
The 4-H Calf and Lamb Show was held on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Brussels Livestock and the
prices people were willing to pay exceeded recent year prices. Lambs averaged $5.17 per
pound and calves brought in an average of $1.52 per pound. The sale has a long history of
the community showing support for its young farmers and encouraging them to continue on
with their passion for agriculture. (Photo submitted)
