Robey, a director for Artscape Toronto, a group that repurposes spaces for artistic and cultural purposes, went on a tour with the group asking as well as providing her own input on what the rooms of the school could be used for. (Denny Scott photo) Discussing the future Campaign 14/19 Project Manager Peter Smith, left, and Artscape Toronto director Pru Robey, both have big ideas for the former Blyth Public School which, as part of the campaign’s five-year plan, will become a community culture and art centre. They wanted to create a hall, and then a theatre, now we’re going to continue on with that and create a school.” Smith said that, from their standpoint, it was great to hear the war stories from the creation of the centres that Robey had to share. “No one project is the same, but she definitely offered us some inspiration,” he said. The biggest thing Smith took from the day was that 14/19 was going to continue to try and be as connected with the community as possible. “We’re going to communicate everything about our fundraising and plans,” he said. “We’re going to have open meetings to debunk any rumours and allay any fears. We’re going to try and include as many people as possible to have things transparent and exciting. We’re going to put everything out there so people can support us and know what’s going on.” For more information on the campaign, contact Smith at the new 14/19 project’s contact number. 519- 955-4594.
