For all newcomers to the community and also to remind those who have helped for years, here is a brief history of this annual event. It started in 1949 and each year over 1,000 people sit down together at one time over a traditional hot turkey supper with the whole community contributing time and food to make this supper a huge success. Last year was another great year realizing a profit of approximately $7,800. The proceeds go towards the operating costs of the Belgrave Community Centre, Arena and Park and sponsor minor sports programs throughout the year. Without thefowl supper, these areas might close.Tickets are available at our localstores. Please help when the committees call on you. Matthew Cottrill curled with his junior men’s team in Galt from Sept. 27 to 29 in the Southern Ontario Superspiel Qualifier. The team finished first overall and advance to the OVCA Superspiel in Ottawa from Nov. 1 to 3 where they will be competing against other junior men’s teams from across Canada and the U.S. Good luck Matthew! The community congratulates Matthew and his team and wish them all the best in Ottawa. By Linda Campbell Call 357-2188 PEOPLE AROUNDBELGRAVE NEWS FROM BELGRAVE Gallery seeks artist creations for upcoming seasons The Blyth Festival Art Gallery has gained a reputation as one of the best regional public galleries in the province and it receives dozens of requests each year from artists wanting information on exhibiting their work in Blyth. But the gallery also wants to encourage local artists to exhibit their work during the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Greg Sherwood, head of the exhibition committee, says, “There is an incredible diversity of regional artistic talent in our immediate area, so we’re putting out a special call for submissions to give our Huron County and area artists the opportunity to exhibit their work here at the Bainton Gallery in Blyth.” Besides the annual Community Show, an open (non-juried) showing of regional art work, and the Student Show (works by Huron and Perth high school art students), the gallery mounts three special art exhibits each year. Usually three weeks in length, they may be solo, two-person or group showings on a particular theme. Individual artists or groups are invited to submit a proposal to the gallery for consideration for the next two seasons. Work in any media (painting, print making, photography, textiles, ceramics, sculpture, etc.) is acceptable and will be selected on the basis of artistic merit. Application packages must include the artist’s contact information, current biography and CV, an artist's statement and exhibition concept. Quality images of recent work in the same style as will be represented in the show must be submitted in hard copy form or digitally on a CD/DVD to arrive by Nov. 10. Submissions will be short- listed and those artists will be interviewed in their own studio by the Blyth Exhibition Committee. Submissions should be mailed to Greg Sherwood, P.O.
