Last week’s Huron County
Plowing Match yielded many
winners from The Citizen’s local
communities, including Lucas
Townsend, who earned the title of
Huron Junior Champion of the
match.
The match was held at the farm of
Dave and Cathy Prance of South
Huron, at 70457 Hern Line near
Winchelsea, which is just southeast
of Exeter.
Blyth’s Townsend, in addition to
being named the Huron Junior
Champion, received the William
Leeming Memorial Award, which is
given to the participant with the best
finish at the junior match.
Townsend finished the match with
a total of 130 points in Class 2.
Craig Baan of Walton took home
the Ross Gordon Memorial Award,
which is given to the participant
with the best crown at the junior
match.
Troy Leeming of Seaforth was
named the Huron Junior Reserve
Champion.
He was also the recipient of the
McGavin Family Award for the
highest score in Classes 2 and 4 and
the Warden’s Award for Junior
Champion. Townsend had won both
awards previously, making him
ineligible to win them a second time.
Leeming also scored a total of 130
points in Class 4.
Kevin Haney of Seaforth was the
Huron Senior Reserve Champion,
while Darryl O’Rourke of Dublin
was the Huron Senior Champion
with a total score of 148 points in
Class 5.
Harold Walker of Sparta won the
Don Dodds Award for the highest
visitor score, while Chris Baker of
Crediton won the Val-Lea Farms
Award for the youngest participant
from Huron County.
