Continued from page 16 member of the reception committee told a reporter, “That’s the first time I ever saw a sermon walk.” We’ve been given a great mission in life, by our God - to live in harmony, weep with the mournful, laugh with the joyful and be not empty. And especially, we’re called to be righteous, and not be self- righteous. We are to be humble. The early church fathers told a much-loved story of Christ’s arrival in heaven on his Ascension: The devil, still smarting from Christ’s descent into hell, was furious that Christ had defeated him and robbed him of his power to shape the lives of men and women. So, masquerading as Jesus Christ himself, the devil rushed into God’s presence and, holding his hands up high in a greeting of triumph, approached the Divine Grace, saying “I am here, I have done the work you gave me to do, I have offered my life for the salvation of the world. Give me the seat of honor at the right hand of your majesty and let me share your power.” God said, “Let me see your hands, your feet, and your side for those wounds suffered in love are the proof of your faithfulness, and they alone gain access to my majesty and power.” Of course the devil had no such wounds to show, as they could see his uplifted hands. At that very moment Christ appeared, and lifting his hands above, he showed the prints of love! Alleluia! Of course the devil, exposed for the fraud he was, is cast into outer- darkness, while Christ sat at God’s right hand! You see, don’t you, that the pierced hands of salvation are the sixth and most complete use of hands ever devised by God! These are the hands of the found; those found to be in the way of God, Jesus, and Holy Spirit; they too are the hands of Christ, the outstretched hands of Jesus today! The question answered: No difference at all! Alleluia! The Arts Hooligans program ended last week with a presentation of a play crafted between the organizer and the children involved called The Royal Flush. The program provides a unique opportunity for children between the ages of six and 12 to discover theatre. Blyth Festival General Manager Deb Sholdice said that the program is important to the area. “The Blyth Festival Children’s Workshop [Arts Hooligans] is a vital institute for the county,” she said in an e-mail to The Citizen. “It provides a safe environment for kids aged six to 12 to explore the skills that lead into theatre.” She said that, aside from theatric skills, it helps the children as they work with the leaders to learn speaking and listening skills and help them develop confidence through theatre activities, including games and crafts. “Often the participants will also venture into playwriting by collectively creating a play that is performed for parents, grandparents, friends and staff,” she said, which iswhat was done this year. The program also offers a chance for Young Company alumni to participate. “We give [the alumni] the opportunity to learn teaching and mentorship skills as either leaders or assistants for the program,” Sholdice said. Taking advantage of that opportunity this year locally was Blyth’s Marlayna Kolkman. Kolkman, who is entering her Grade 12 year at St. Anne’s Catholic Secondary School, was part of the Young Company that produced Working in the County, a play aboutpeople of all ages who are workingoutside the agriculture sector in Huron County. She was also involved in a co- operative program with the Festival, which is how she got involved with Young Company. “It was a really fun experience,” she said of the week-long Arts Hooligans program. “I got to teach about drama and learned about it.” The Arts Hooligans program, which ended with the play on Thursday, Aug. 29, runs every summer.
