Tigers defeated the Walton Brewers
in a Huron County Fastball League
contest played at the Walton
ballpark.
Dewar had a perfect game going
until the fifth inning when Matt
Shortreed rapped out a single.
The Tigers scored single runs in
every inning but the sixth, when they
scored three. The Brewers scored all
three of their runs in the bottom of
the fifth inning.Steve Scholl connected for a three-run inside-the-park home run in thesixth inning for the Tigers. Brian
McArter connected for a triple and a
pair of singles, with Gene Johnson
and Scott McTavish each hitting a
pair of doubles. Shawn Daw hit a
double and single, with Wade
Stephenson getting a double. Adam
Corbett rapped out a pair of singles,
with Sean Johnston getting one
single.
Scott Cox hit a two-run home run
for the Brewers. Barry Young had an
RBI single with Shortreed and Paul
Dolmage also getting singles.Dewar went the distance on themound for the Tigers, Cox went thedistance for the Brewers.
Veteran player Jason Kellington
said Dewar threw a great game for
the Tigers.
“We received some great hitting,”
he said. “It was a great team effort.”
Veteran Walton player Paul
Dolmage said their pitcher threw
well. “Our pitcher threw a decent
game,” he said.
He added that Brussels had a
couple of key hits in the game.
Out, no wait, safe!
The Walton Brewers took on the Brussels Tigers on
Tuesday last week. The Brewers were unable to stand up to

The Wingham Golf and Curling
Club enjoyed another great week of
summer and are looking forward to a
busy fall.
In golf action the Tuesday ladies
had their nine-hole competition for
the Wilma Kerr trophy. Around 20
ladies played throughout the day
with Debbie Currie coming out on
top taking home the trophy. The
winner of the longest putt prize was
Ann Ross.
The Wednesday senior men had
25 golfers thank the girls for letting
them play on Tuesday ladies day.
Don Bone once again took low gross
honours with a solid 36. Bone also
claimed low net with Ed Daer,
second and Jamie Sanderson, third.
Harry George was winner of the
longest putt while Sanderson took
home the closest to the pin.
Wednesday, Aug. 21 the club held
the annual FM 94.5 The Bull day at
the club. This is a great day for non-
members to enjoy a round of golf
and share some casual fun and
laughs.
The Thursday men had another
great turnout as 64 golfers hit the
links. Jason Goodall returned to
form with a great round of 37 to take
low round of the night. The winners
of the closest to the pin were Ray
Walker and Lloyd Erb with Joel
Watson, Roger Lloyd, Mark Gibson
and Muzz Coghlin claiming longest
putt awards. The hidden score
winners were Ryan Chambers, Brian
Carr and Bruce Skillen.
The annual John Mallick
Memorial senior tournament is
scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 11.
There is still lots of room available
for golfers who would like to take
part in this event in memory of a
great past member.
Tuesday, Aug. 20 the Wingham
Golf and Curling Club held the
“celebration of life” for the late Bob
Ruttan. Close to 150 family and
friends gathered in the dining lounge
to pay their respects. Bob Ruttan was
a well-respected, hard-working local
businessman who was very active in
the community and will be truly
missed by the town of Wingham.

Huron East man on motorcycle killed in collision
On Friday, Aug. 23 at
approximately 9:45 p.m. members of
the Huron County Ontario Provincial
Police (OPP) were dispatched to a
two vehicle collision at the
intersection of Kinburn Line and
Summerhill Road in Kinburn.
Investigation revealed that a
Chevrolet Astro van was travelling
east bound on Summerhill Road.
The van proceeded to cross the
intersection of Kinburn Line after
having stopped at the stop sign. A
fast moving north bound Yamaha
motorcycle travelling on Kinburn
Line struck the passenger side rear
corner of the Astro van. The impact
resulted in the motorcycle operator
being thrown from his machine.
The motorcycle operator was
transported to the Seaforth
Community Hospital where he was
pronounced deceased. He has been
identified as Dean Haycock, a 22-
year-old Huron East resident. The
driver and lone occupant of the Astro
van was transported to Clinton
Public Hospital from where he was
transported to the London Victoria
Hospital with serious injuries.
To allow for the OPP Western
Region Traffic Collision
Investigation Unit to safely complete
its investigation into this collision,
Kinburn Line between Bridge Road
and Winthrop Road, as well as
Summerhill Road between Burns
Line and Division Line was closed
until approximately 3 a.m. on
Saturday, Aug. 24.
JEWELLERY STOLEN IN B&E
Huron County Ontario Provincial
Police (OPP) officers were
dispatched to a rural residence on
Amberley Rd., west of Bluevale on
Thursday, Aug. 15 after the
homeowner discovered a break-in.
It appeared that between 10:30
a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on the date in
question, unknown person(s) forced
open the side door of the residence
and gained entry into the home. The
home was rummaged through and
easily transportable items such as
jewelry and cash were taken.
Police say a light brown vehicle
was observed near the home during
the time of the break-in. Anyone
with information about this break-in
and theft is requested to contact the
Huron County OPP at 1-888-310-
1122. Should you wish to remain
anonymous, you may call Crime
Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477),
and you may be eligible to receive a
cash reward of up to $2,000.
UNSAFE VEHICLE FOUND
A speeding driver ended up
without a vehicle following a traffic
stop last Saturday. On Aug. 10 at
12:47 p.m. a Huron County Ontario
Provincial Police (OPP) officer
spotted a grey Nissan Pathfinder
speeding westbound on Howick-
Turnberry Road. The vehicle’s speed
was clocked at 110km/h, 30 km/h
over the 80km/h zone speed limit.
Through further discussion it was
discovered that the licence plates
were not authorized to the
Pathfinder. In addition, it was
observed the vehicle had several
mechanical and safety deficiencies.
As a result, a 42-year-old man
from Morris-Turnberry has been
charged with Speeding, Use Plates
Not Authorized for Vehicle and
Operate Unsafe Vehicle. He has a
court appearance scheduled for
Provincial Offences Court in
Goderich on Oct. 8. The vehicle was
towed from the scene.
E-BIKER CRASHES, FOUND DUI
Shortly after 4 p.m. on Aug. 12
Huron County Ontario Provincial
Police (OPP) officers were
dispatched to Orchard Line near
Black’s Point Road in Central Huron
for a single motor vehicle collision
involving an Electric Bicycle (E-
Bike). Witnesses reported the driver
of the E-Bike was travelling
southbound on Orchard Line when
he lost control and drove into the
south side ditch. Officers arrived on
scene and determined the driver had
been drinking alcohol. He was
displaying signs of impairment and
was arrested for Impaired Driving.
He was transported to the Huron
OPP Detachment for breath tests. He
provided two samples of his breath;
both of his samples were above the
legal limit. The driver was uninjured
from the collision.
A 64-year-old man, from Central
Huron has been charged with
Impaired Driving and Drive Motor
Vehicle Over 80 Milligrams of
Alcohol. He appeared in the Ontario
Court of Justice in Goderich on Aug.
14. He received an automatic 90-day
driver’s licence suspension and the
motor vehicle has been impounded
for seven days.
Motorists do not need a driver’s
licence to operate an e-bike,
however, an e-bike is considered a
motor vehicle under the Criminal
Code of Canada. Anyone operating
an e-bike while impaired by drug or
alcohol can be charged with
impaired driving. If convicted, they
could face a fine and probation.
