Brussels Tigers mercy Barons 13-0 in HCFL action
The Brussels Tigers received an
outstanding pitching performance
from Shawn Daw as they mercied
the Blyth Barons 13-0 in five innings
in Huron County Fastball League
contest played on Aug. 21 at the
Optimist ballpark in Brussels.
Daw recorded 13 strikeouts in
going the distance on the mound.
Adam Cronin went the distance on
the mound for the Barons.
The Tigers took a 5-0 lead in the
first inning and never looked back as
they seemed to score at will in the
game.
Sean Johnston provided the big
blow for the Tigers in the first inning
as he connected for three-run home
run. Steve Scholl followed up with a
solo home run. Scholl added a
double. Scott McTavish hit a triple,
double and a single. Wade
Stephenson hit a triple and double,
with Brian McArter getting a double
and two singles. Gene Johnston and
Shawn Daw each rapped out a pair
of singles, with Ben Pletch getting
one single.
Darrel Eckert hit a triple and single
for the Barons, with Mike McDonald
collecting a pair of singles. Mike
Kerr rapped out one single.
Veteran Blyth player Mike
McDonald was trying to find
positives in the game. “Darrel Eckert
went 2-2 at the plate in his season
debut for the Barons,” he said.
He added that Adam Cronin
pitched well, but the Barons just
didn’t provide him with any defence.
“The bats came alive tonight,” said
veteran Brussels player Jason
Kellington. “We received
outstanding pitching from Shawn
Daw.”
He added that the Tigers received
some awesome hitting. “Everyone
contributed to the win,” he said. “It
was a total team effort.”

Walton Brewers 7-3
The Blyth Barons scored four runs
in the bottom of the first inning and
never looked back as they defeated
the Walton Brewers by a score of 7-
3 in Huron County Fastball League
play last Friday evening at the Blyth
ballpark.
Shawn Bromley had a triple and
double to lead the Barons offence.
Mike Bromley had a pinch hit triple.
Chris Stewart and Steve Hewitt
rapped out a pair of singles each and
Adam Cronin had one single.
Darryl Houston collected three
hits, a pair of singles and a double,
to lead the Brewers offence. Dan
Raycraft had a triple and single,
with Jeff Robinson collecting a
triple. Andrew Van Vliet hit a double
and Brandon McGavin and Paul
Dolmage had one single apiece.
Scott Bromley started on the
mound for the Barons, with Adam
Cronin taking over in relief. Paul
Dolmage started on the mound for
the Brewers, with Scott Cox coming
on in relief.
According to the veteran Baron
Mike McDonald, the Barons had
some good hitting. “Our bats came
alive tonight,” he said.
He indicated that Scott Bromley
pitched well early in the game and
that Adam Cronin came in and
pitched well.
“It was a good team win,” said
McDonald.
Veteran Walton player Jeff
Robinson said Paul Dolmage
pitched a solid game.
“A solid pitching performance by
Paul Dolmage was wasted by
missed opportunities on offence,” he
said.
The Barons forfeited their game
against the Wingham Hitmen on
Sunday afternoon, resulting in a
loss.
