The Wingham Golf and Curling
Club enjoyed a taste of summer this
past week and many golfers took full
advantage of the great conditions.
The Tuesday ladies got the week
off to a good start with 17 ladies out
for nine holes of golf followed by
lunch in the golfers lounge. Ann
Ross was the winner of the longest
putt with Marg Carswell claiming
the prize for closest to the pin.
The Wednesday morning senior
men had 23 golfers on a great
morning for golf. Bill Johnston took
home first prize money with Bill
Stephenson, second and Lloyd
Lamont, third. Bill Deans was winner
of the closest to the pin while Ed Daer
sank the longest putt. Don Bone and
Steve Nixon shot low rounds for the
day posting a score of 39.
The Thursday night men had 68
golfers hit the links. Don Edgar and
Ben Dailleboust both shot solid
rounds of 38 to share low gross. The
closest to the pin winners were
Devon Connor and Matt Harris with
Ken Mathers, Jason Goodall,
Murray Coghlin and Scott Helder
claiming the longest putts.
The hidden score prizes went to
Kent McPherson, Grant Currie,
Dave Reinink and Mike McDonagh.
Monday, Aug. 12 the Clinton
Casino fundraiser was again a huge
success as a group of 66 got together
for a terrific ham and scalloped
potato supper followed by some

Walton Brewers mercy Sebringville in six inningsWalton Brewers put seven runnersacross the plate in the fifth inning
and then added another in the eighth
as they mercied the Sebringville
Junior Sting 10-3 in six innings in
Huron County Fastball League play
last Tuesday at the Walton ballpark.
Walton scored single runs in the
first and third innings as well. The
Junior Sting put two runners across
the plate in the top of the third inning
and added a single run in the fourthinning to hold a temporary 4-3advantage.Paul Dolmage started on themound for the Brewers, with Jeff
Smith taking over in relief.
Adam Verkley had a home run and
a double for the Brewers. Matt
Shortreed hit a double and a single,
while Scott Cox rapped out a trio of
singles. Bruce Pearn and Scott
McDonald each had a double, with
single base hits being rapped out by
Darryl Houston and Dan Raycraft.
Veteran player Dolmage said itwas a good win for the Brewers.“We’re back at .500,” he said.“Our bats came alive late in thegame.”
He indicated that Adam Verkley
had a big game, driving in four runs,
including a big home run. “It w
as a good team win,” said
Dolmage.
The Brewers were in Belmore on
Sunday and then host the Brussels
Tigers on Tuesday, beginning at 8
p.m. at the Walton ballpark.

Tigers mark two wins at home
The Brussels Tigers picked up a
pair of victories in Huron County
Fastball League play last week.
Playing at the Optimist ballpark in
Brussels last Friday, the Tigers
posted an 8-6 decision over the
Belmore Stingers. Playing at home
on Aug. 14, the Tigers scored a 22-0
decision over the Wroxeter Royals.
The Tigers put two runners across
the plate in the first inning, scored
single runs in the second and fourth
innings before scoring three times in
the fifth and added an insurance run
in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Belmore scored two runs in the top
of the first inning, scored single runs
in the second and fourth innings
before putting two runs across the
plate in the top of the fifth inning.
Shawn Daw hit a home run and
added a pair of singles. Scott
McTavish hit a triple and two
singles. Wade Stephenson connected
for a pair of doubles with Steve
Scholl and Sean Cook each getting a
double and single. Sean Johnston hit
a double, while Justin Pipe rapped
out a pair of singles. Gene Johnston
contributed a single to the win.
Shawn Daw went the distance on
the mound for the Tigers.
Third base coach Mike Watson
said it was a good pitching
performance by Daw. “We received
timely hitting when we needed it,”
he said.
Shawn Daw threw a one-hitter last
Wednesday and had 12 strikeouts as
the Tigers defeated the Royals 22-0.
Daw helped his cause at the plate
as he hit a home run and had a pair
of singles. Scott McTavish hit a
home run and also added a single.
Brody TenPas had a triple and a
double. Steve Scholl connected for a
pair of doubles and single, with Ben
Pletch getting a triple and single.
Gene Johnston rapped out four
singles, with Sean Johnston getting
a double and single. Dennis Dewar
connected for a double, with single
base hits being contributed by Brian
McArter and Wade Stephenson.
Daw went the distance on the
mound for the Tigers.
The Tigers were in Walton on
Tuesday for a game against the
Brewers. They hosted the Blyth
Barons last night in a make-up game
at the Optimist ballpark. The Tigers
travel to Wroxeter on Friday for an
8:30 p.m. contest against the Royals.
