Last Thursday, the Brewers put two runners across the plate thanks to Scott McDonald's second two-run home run of the game, as they edged past the Fullarton A’s by a score of 9- 8. The Brewers put three runners across the plate in the first inning, scored two in the third and fifth innings before winning the game in the sixth inning with a pair of runs. Fullarton scored three runs in the fourth inning, added two more in the fifth and then took the lead with three runners crossing the plate in the top of the sixth. Adam Verkley hit a home run a single while Jamie Wicke connected for a solo home run, Darryl Houston and Bruce Pearn hit one double each and Scott Cox rapped out a pair of singles. Getting single base hits were Jeff Robinson and Andrew Van Vliet. Scott McDonald started on the mound for the Brewers with Scott Cox coming on in relief. Veteran player Blaine Marks said that four home runs in the game powered the Brewers to the victory. “The winning run was scored on Scott McDonald’s second two-run home run,” he said. On Aug. 6, the Brewers scored runs in the first three innings as they defeated the Zurich Rangers by a score of 9-6. The Brewers scored two runs in the first inning, adding one in the second inning before putting five runners across the plate in the third inning. Zurich scored three times in the first inning, added two in the third and a single run in the fifth inning. Scott Cox started on the mound for the Brewers, with Jeff Smith taking over in relief. Jamie Wicke had a triple and single, with Scott McDonald connecting for a triple. Darryl Houston rapped out three singles, with Adam Verkley hitting a double and Jeff Smith and Jeff Robinson getting two singles apiece. Blaine Marks, Kevin Murray and Andrew Van Vliet added one single each. Veteran player Scott McDonald said it was a good team effort. “We had timely hitting when we needed it,” he said. The Brewers hosted the Sebringeville Junior Sting on Tuesday at the Walton ballpark. They travel to Belmore on Sunday for a 1 p.m. contest against the Stingers. The Brewers play host to the Brussels Tigers on Tuesday beginning at 8 p.m. at the Walton ballpark. (Jim Brown photo) Barons beat Fullarton A’s 6-5 with late-game run The Blyth Barons scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat the Fullarton A’s 6-5 in Huron County Fastball League play last Friday evening at the Blyth ballpark. Chris Stewart singled in the bottom of the seventh, stole second on a passed ball and then scored on Craig Elliott’s single. Shawn Bromley hit a two-run home run and added a pair of singles. Stewart finished the game with three singles and Elliott had a pair of singles. Casey Boven connected for a double, while single base hits were contributed by Mike Bromley and Steve Cook. Scott Bromley started on the mound for the Barons, with Elliott taking over in relief and earning the win. Veteran player Mike Kerr said Shawn Bromley hit a two-run home run to help out with the victory. “We received great pitching from starter Scott Bromley and reliever Craig Elliott,” he said. He indicated that Elliott had a key single in the seventh inning to bring home the winning run. The Barons hosted the Belmore Stingers in a make up game on Tuesday. Game results were not available at press time. The Barons now travel to Wingham on Sunday for a 2 p.m. game against the Hitmen before their next home game on Aug. 23 when they host the Walton Brewers beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Blyth ballpark.
