The Citizen, 2013-08-01, Page 17THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, AUGUST 1, 2013. PAGE 17. Volunteers needed for ambitious 14/19 projectContinued from page 16brought in to work on their newestprojects for six to eight weeks and inturn will teach people interested in learning their craft. Those people will then pass those lessons on to others and, through that teaching, the school will be supported. “The people that learn from the artisans will turn around and teach people from five to 95 from around the county,” Smith said, likening the forum in which the artists would speak to Technology, Entertainment, Design presentations (TEDTalks)that have recently become popularon the internet but have been aroundfor nearly 30 years. Smith believes the people who are getting involved now are people who would be interested in participating in both a student and a teacher capacity when the school is realized and stated that is why the idea has already found so much traction. He also stated that the volunteers are great and that everyone who has heard about the program wanted to become involved. Some of thatbecame more apparent to himshortly after the announcement onSunday. “[Sunday] a chartered accountant walked up and said, ‘I’m a chartered accountant and I want to volunteer for this project,’ I said we don’t have a chartered accountant, we have business people, members of the Legion, the Lions, but we don’t have a chartered accountant and we need one,” he said. “She just walked up and put her name down and that’s very cool to me. That’s the kind ofgroundswell that’s going to build usup above and beyond.”Regardless of how big the project gets, how many people get involved and how successful it is, Smith said it all comes back to Blyth and what the people of Blyth are capable. “The arena was such a project,” Smith said. “There was a time when the gang got together and said, this is what we can do, we can put on our sweatshirts and jeans and work boots and we can help you,” he said. “We can pull out screws, we can takedown walls, we can do whatever youneed. A crew was assembled, mountains were moved... [and] it sounded like an amazing project. This is a similar one.” Business Directory Affordable CAR AND TRUCK RENTALS Large & Small Trucks fridge carts - piano dollys- moving blankets Complete Selection of Cars Our rates qualify for insurance replacement Passenger Vans full size or mini GODERICH TOYOTA 344 Huron Rd. 519-524-9381 GODERICH 1-800-338-1134 NEW CONSTRUCTION AGRICULTURAL RENOVATIONS RESIDENTIAL Call 519-527-1538 Tarion Home Warranty Builders THE ZAHND TEAM P.O.
