By Reba JeffersonThe first meeting of Wawanosh 4-H’s Fitness and Health PLAY(Positive Living Active You) Club was held on Friday, July 12 at 7 p.m. at the Jefferson home. Before the meeting, the members did some skipping as a warmup. Leader Mary Ellen Foran then began the meeting with the pledge and discussed the goals and expectations of the club. The election of officers was then held. Maisy Jefferson became president with Janette Plaetzer as her vice-president. Jolande Oudshoorn is the cover designer and Reba Jefferson volunteered as pressreporter.Next, the newly-elected presidentled roll call which asked members what their favourite physical activity was? Members’ answers included swimming, soccer, hockey, dancing and more. The club then completed the physical activity readiness questionnaire to see if they are ready for all types of exercises or if they needed to consult their doctor. The club then took their resting pulse rate, stretched to touch their toes and counted how many situps they could do in a minute. They recorded their results and willcompare their results when theyretry these activities at the end of theclub. Members of the club then went on a 30-minute walk and jog to get their heart rates up to find their pulse rate after walking so they could calculate their target heart rate. At the end of the meeting the club made smoothies for a healthy post- workout snack. Maisy Jefferson ended the meeting with the motto. The next meeting was schedued for Friday, July 19 at the Auburn Hall. Let’s PLAY The Wawanosh 4-H Club started its Positive Living Active You (PLAY) club earlier this month.
