camp to Clinton.
“People like Ben really enrich
your life,” Gruber said.
He said he really respected Lobb’s
work to help bring the cost of the
camp down.
When Gruber first began holding
camps, he said, the cost would have
been $300 per child, which he
wasn’t in favour of. He has worked
with large companies and local
businesses to help subsidize costs so
no child is left out because of costs.
He praised the work of Bullett on
the camp’s second day. Gruber said
he didn’t have much experience with
running an indoor camp, due to the
weather, so that’s where Bullett
really chipped in, making sure the
kids had a great experience and
learned a lot, despite being indoors.
Matt Lee, event/facility manager
at REACH, said he was contacted on
Monday afternoon when it looked
like Tuesday’s weather was not
going to allow the camp to proceed
outdoors.
He and the REACH crew
borrowed a packer from Central
Huron and packed the dirt in the
building’s show ring, making it
appropriate for baseball and fly ball
drills, which Bullett was running.
Gruber also said he hoped to
return to Clinton next year after the
potential he saw last week.
“We’ll see you next year,” Gruber
said.

Lobb gives back with
Gruber baseball camp
Teaching them a thing or two
Huron-Bruce MP Ben Lobb, centre, wasn’t only instrumental in bringing the Kelly Gruber
Silver Slugger Baseball Camp to Huron County, having played college baseball in the U.S., he
was also one of the instructors. Helping him out was Central Huron Councillor Marg Anderson,
