The Walton Hall Board hosted a
Blyth Festival dinner on Saturday
evening. They had 71 enjoy a great
meal of roast beef. Thanks to helpers
Judy Lee, Barb Durrell, Jo-Ann
McDonald, Annette Lewington and
Jane Zwep.
Saturday evening was the pig roast
for the engaged couple of Jennifer
McClure and Marco Van Driel at the
farm of Fred and Heidi McClure.
There was a great crowd of family,
friends and neighbours attended to
help the couple prepare for their
upcoming wedding in September.
The Moncrieff Hall is continuing
to host euchre parties on the second
and fourth Friday evenings of the
month. They were three tables of
players on the night of June 28 to
enjoy the night of play. Winners
were: high lady, Anne Cooper; low
lady, Sharon Freeman; high man,
Jim Smith; low man, Adrian
Verstoep; lone hands, Helen Dobson
and Alan Martin.
Friday, July 12 had five tables of
players arrive to enjoy the evening.
Winners were: high lady, Marion
Harrison; high man, Allan Martin;
low lady, Carole Ludington; low
man, John Subject; lone hands,
Elaine Smith and Bill Naylor.
Everyone is welcome to come out
and enjoy the evening for only $2

next euchre will be July 26.
Rick and Scott McDonald went to
the Hamilton Tigercats football
game on Saturday evening. They
were surprised to run into Tim and
Mike Nolan. They had a great visit
with the two brothers and caught up
on the the Nolan news. They also ran
into Art and Joan McNaughton at the
game and had a visit with them. A
nice surprise and a nice evening and
the Tigercats won!
It was party time in Brussels for a
large group of folks. It was the
school reunion of the graduating
Grade 8 class of 1976 (I think). It
was also welcome to the “’50s”
party for many held at the home of
Don and Jill Sholdice. There were
15 people who had birthdays around
the same time so they celebrated at
the big get-together. They had
pictures taken, but two were missing
at the time, but even so having 13
friends in one picture is great. Some
of the celebrants included Brian Ten
Pas, Ken Cousins and Ken Higgins.
You will have to guess which
Sholdice was the birthday boy! It
looks like 1963 was a very good
year.
It was birthday party time for little
Emma Johnston, the granddaughter
of Judy and Clint Emmrich. Parents
Katie and Ryan Johnston had the
Emmrich and Johnston grandparents
on hand and a few friends, like our
daughter Kelly and little Connor, for
a barbecued lunch and afternoon
visit on Saturday.
Celebrating birthdays this past
week include Brenda Finlayson,
Melanie Kirkby, Emma Johnston
(Emmrich), Alicia Dalton, Nicholas
Shahshahani, Doreen Hackwell, Ed
McClure, Monica Ryan, Tracey
McKee, Andrea Bremner, Gloria
Love, Jackie Glanville, Caitlyn
Regele, Grace Robinson, Steve
Baan, Gary Godkin, LeeAnn
McDonald and Paul Somerville.
Happy birthday to all.
Gord and Irma Pryce have
returned from a two-week trip to the
east coast. They went on a bus tour
and made stops in P.E.I., Nova
Scotia, and New Brunswick. They
went to Halifax and went to the
Halifax Pipe Band Tattoo with bands
from all over. It was fantastic. They
saw the Anne of Green Gables play
and toured many cities including old
and new Quebec City, Montreal,
Halifax and Charlottetown.
They report they had a wonderful
time.
Ron Pryce and son Sheldon had a
wonderful experience just a short
time ago. Sheldon was part of an
Atom (11 year old) hockey team
participating in a tournament in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dan
Wildfong, formerly of Seaforth, is
an organizer and the players for the
Ontario team were from all over.
Ron was even the head coach for the
team. Ron and wife Shelley and
Sheldon had a great time there.
We are pleased to report that
Doreen Hackwell has returned to
Huronlea. We hope she is coming
along well.
Edna Pearson of Huronlea is
enjoying visiting with her daughter
Nancy and son-in-law, Murray
Procter from California. They drove
here in their motorhome and covered
the 3,000-mile trip without incident.
They are staying at a campground in
Grand Bend and will be here for the
months of June and July. They will
be spending time visiting with
family and friends before returning
to their home in California at the end
of the month.
Surprise, surprise! Pat and George
Langlois were very surprised when
they arrived at the Milestone
Restaurant in London to find all
their family waiting to wish them
happy anniversary. They knew Bill
and Susan Meyers were taking them
out for supper to celebrate 55 years
of marriage, but had no idea all the
family would be joining them.
Gathered together were sisters Betty
Glew and Mary Bradshaw and
grandchildren Curtis and Jenna and
baby and Kate, Brent and Andrea
and Marissa and her Scottish
girlfriend Jo. They enjoyed a
wonderful meal, a champagne toast
and a good time together. Happy
anniversary Pat and George!
The Glanville clan gathered at the
Winthrop Ball Park for the 10th
Glanville reunion. There were over
70 in attendance for the potluck
meal and get-together. The kids
enjoyed crafts and the adults
enjoyed the visiting. President for
the second year is Lisa Glanville.
Graeme and Helen Craig were the
hosts for not one family reunion, but
two last weekend. They hosted
Helen’s father’s side of the family,
the Elliotts on Friday evening and
Saturday. They enjoyed plenty of
good food with everyone
contributing in some way. They had
prime rib as the featured meal.
Helen’s sisters – Mary from B.C.
and Emily, Haliburton and brother
Bob, Kitchener and family members
were all part of the 35 Elliotts
attending.
The next reunion was the
gathering of Helen’s mother’s side of
the family, the Whitmores. They
began to arrive Saturday evening and
celebrated the reunion on Sunday.
There were about 20 on hand for the
potluck meal with barbecued
hamburgers. Graeme cooked his
famous pancakes on Sunday
morning at the Walton Inn for the
members of the families on hand.
Graeme will be known as the host
with the most.
Our condolences to the Love
family on the passing of Bertha
Love. She had lived to the ripe old
age of 103 – amazing. She will be
missed by her children George, Faye
and Tom and their families. Our
sympathies to all.
Our condolences to the Siemon
family on the passing of Bill
Siemon. Bill will be missed by his
wife Vicki and children Annette,
Tracey, Janet and Jim and their
families. Bill will be remembered as
an avid hunter, a businessman, a man
who was involved in our local
government and as a man who
wasn’t afraid to voice his opinion.
Our sympathies to all his family and
extended family.
Congratulations to Ross and Marg
Bennett’s granddaughter, Emilee
Bennett of Collingwood who
captured second place in the Ontario
Pipe Band solo competition. The
event was held in Kincardine.
A report on Barry Engel is that he
is now a resident at the Seaforth
Manor. He is getting along and
coping very well in his new
surroundings.
Our condolences to the Beuerman
family on the passing of Denis
Beuerman. Our sympathies are
extended to his wife Bonnie and
children Michelle, Paul, Kevin and
Kurt and their families. The
Beuermans lived on Hullett
McKillop Rd., east of North Line,
when I came to Walton and then
moved to west of North Line, to the
former Gulutzen farm until moving
to Seaforth. Our condolences to all.
We understand Lila Storey is in
Seaforth Hospital. We hope she is
improving and will soon be home.
